Heyy.. Guys
I'm thinking about getting a tattoo on my 18th birthday on September 21st... long ways to go, but I'm starting my research now. My parents know and they are totally cool with it as long as its not huge... I was thinking about getting a butterfly tattoo either on my back/shoulder blade, lower [small] of my back, on the top of my foot or ankles, or on the back of my neck.. But the thing is that I'm not sure if I want a butterfly. I'm open to all suggestions at this point.. ALSO, do you guys know pricing in lynnwood, washington? or anyone wanna tell me about their first tattoo experience?? If you guys have any ideas or anything email me okay... THANKS!!!

I"m not rushing into getting anything.. I just want some suggestions or ideas. Of Course Im going to take my time and decide what I want and how to personalize it. There are some people on here who are so rude.. I was just asking for suggestions or ideas.. ITs not like I'm going to choose the first person who gives me a design idea and go straight to a tattoo artist and tell him to put it on me. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR TAKING YOUR TIME AND HELPING ME. :)

I got my first tattoo at 18. It is a heart with a devil tail and horns on my ankle. To me its wonderful cuz it is SO me. Sweety yet bitchy and evil at the same time lmfao. Look. Here is the thing. You dont get a tattoo to be kool or cuz its cute. You get a tatoo to represent something about you. Its a personal thing. If you just get a tat cuz soemone has suggested somethign cute then you will hate it. Wait until you think of something that is you. My best friend has lady bugs cuz she LOVES ladybugs always has and always will. Get something that represents you. My next tat is going to be on the back of my right shoulder and it is going to be a precious moments angel with my sons name and birth date. He is my world and to me its wil mean something. Think about it long and hard. Tattoos are not something to rush into.

I've been wanting to get a tattoo for years, but I'm still undecided myself for what I want, plus I'm lacking in money. Oh, there are a tons of cute/cool/trendy ideas I like, but I don't want to regret it when I'm 30, 50, or 90 years old - because it'll be there when you're in a nursing home.
Choose something that has meaning for you and I also approve the idea of something with double meaning, so if you get sick of or come to hate one reason, then you can just force yourself to ignore it and just concentrate on your other reason for the tattoo. And I'll never get my fiance's name as a tattoo, no matter how much I love him. Also, consider that most employers don't allow visible tattoos and you might not want the tat visible when you're in your wedding dress or when you take your 10 year old child to a pool party. Not to be discouraging just make sure it's something you're going to want no matter what stage of life you're at.
You should spend the next few months (maybe til April) choosing a design, then spend the rest of the months til your birthday making sure that you really want that design.

Make sure that your tattoo is not somebodys name unless it is a blood relative. Make sure your tattoos have meanings behind them and not just "I thought the colors were pretty" The best thing I could suggest to you is draw up your own tattoo, after all you have months and months until you get it. Make it truely your own that nobody else could possibly have. also as a first tattoo get it someplace out of the way or "hidden" if possible and not too large (maybe about the size of a silver dollar) incase you don't like it after a year or two.
Trust me, follow those few items pointed out above and you won't regret your first tattoo, if you decide you like tattoos then you can get a bit more daring and put them out in the open and make them bigger. Me as of right now having a total of 13 tattoos and loving every one of them except one.
Oh, and if you think you can get it covered up if you don't like it good luck! some tats are EXTREMELY hard to cover up like the one going up my rib cage. so unless I want to drop 2G's on a really detailed tat I can just forget about it.
Think it over, ask yourself if this is what you want, and make a decision..........Good luck

If you can go to laughing buddha in seattle they have some great art to look at. That might give you some ideas. Also, Seattle has a Tattoo convention every year - usually in the Seattle Center - You can search online for info - if usually occurs mid to end of august. There are tattoo artists from all over the world... If you look there you may be suprised!! It is awesome.

ok good idea to give yourself some time... not something u want to rush into.... especially with the design.... also, totally agree with the person who suggested designing your own, have a chat with your potential tattooist & get some ideas, they will even draw up some designs for you.... & if u want a butterfly, then get a butterfly.... personally i like all that sort of stuff (fairies, butterflies, flowers etc) i mean, what are we (us girls) supposed to get?? a skull & crossbones?!?! lmao........... and as for 'asking ANY adult etc'.... well im 26 and i dont think its the stupidest thing ive ever done... i think its stupid to NOT do the things you want to in life..... but, if you're not sure, just leave it, you have plenty of time!! and be careful where you end up getting it, take into consideration things like jobs etc where it may not be acceptable..

no offense. but butterflies are so overdone and cliche.
pick something that you identify with. and something you think you'll want when you're older.
Pick a tattoo because it's important to you, not pretty.

Igot my first Tattoo when I was 24 and now have 3. The thing with mine is, they can all be hidden! Make sure your first one can be hidden if you want to. That way, should you decide it was a mistake, no-one need know!

Don't do it! I know people who got tattoos and regretted it later. They are not easy to remove.
Just some advice. :-)

I got my first at 35.. As soon as my son turned 18 he wanted one too.. My only thought is make sure that it is something that means something to you not a trend, and you should be able to cover it with day to day cloths. Some day it could be held against you. good luck and think hard..

My advise on a tattoo... if it doesn't look good hanging on a wall then it shouldn't be on your body.
