Listen to Grandma. Italian is by far the most beautiful language. You are not going to use German, honestly. With Italian, if nothing else, you will be able to sound cultured when properly pronouncing food items. Of course, French is good for that too, but I have studied both and prefer Italian. Plus, Italy itself is like heaven.
Buona fortuna! Ciao

Are you taking the language for a school credit? If so, then you should take French. Since you already speak Italian and French and Italian are both Romance languages, you will find similarities that will help you make a better grade.
I am a German speaker and language tutor and I can tell you German is completely different from Latin/French/Italian/Spanish in structure. From a grammatical standpoint French is actually easier to learn.

Honestly, I was almost in your exact same position when I was in school.....I can only speak from my own experience in that I wish I had taken French instead of Spanish. I took Spanish because I thought it was easier and because I lived in NYC where it is spoken a lot. I thought I'd be able to use it more. In retrospect, I didn't need the Spanish more, I would have needed the French more, but there was no way I could have known that until years after making the decision. Also, Spanish didn't really excite me as a language. You have to really like a language to want to study it, which is probably my first suggestion for you.

My advice is to learn some French, if only because we use so many French words and phrases in the English language that you will benefit from knowing. If you like food and cooking you will see French words on menus and in recipes, too. It always impresses people when you know French.

My mother grew up in Montreal and spoke fluent French. French speaking people are very devoted to their language and it broke her heart that I didn't want to learn it. In retrospect it would have been a good bonding vehicle for my mother and I if she could have helped me learn French. This didn't mean a lot to me when I was younger, but now that I'm in my 40's it looks much different.

My dad is fluent in German and wanted me to learn it, but I'm glad I didn't take it because it would have been relatively useless for me, plus I didn't really like the language. French is a pretty language and at least has some "snob appeal". If knowing a language that is considered romantic and a sign of class and taste sounds cool, then French is for you.

Italian wouldn't be a bad choice either, but I think you'd find more outlets for the French in everyday usage. Both my mother and grandmother were fluent in Italian but I've never regretted not studying it.

You can always change your mind and study something else if you realize you've made the wrong choice, so it's not like you have to make a decision that you can't change for the rest of your life.

Anyway, good luck!

Italian is more difficult than German,Spanish and French but it is less useful.
If you want to study a language just for fun then choose the language you like the most.

As a language requirement, take Latin. It is the basis for all Romance languages and will help you with your studies in everything from Bible studies to Chemistry and Archaeology.Take Spanish until you get a decent working knowledge of it for use in the USA. Take a course in German and get a German/English dictionary to use if you ever go to Europe. French is fairly easy to pick up on the street and Italian is so similar to Spanish, you'll get it in 2 weeks if you ever go there.

what do you want to do with your language knowledge; how are you going to use this language? true, german is spoken often in europe, especially in business transactions. french is spoken in many african countries, as france had several colonies there. do you really plan on using this language, or are you just taking it to fulfill a requirement? if so, french is the easiest. they're all beautiful though; you may want to take into account the cultures behind the languages. perhaps you should just choose based on practicality: which will help you most in whatever you're going to use your language for?

In today society, those 3 languages are not spoken as often as they use to be.
I would like to humbly suggest that you take Spanish. It is spoken in a lot of places. If you find that you have a knack for languages, I would then take French.
German is a very hard language to speak unless you have someone to practice with everyday and Italian is not much easier.

The boys in Italy are cuter than in Germany or France, plus Itallian is such a beautiful language, I think its even prettier than French... It's up to you, heck you could blow all out of the water and learn Chinese or Japanese. Japanese is a beautiful language and it's fun too. Once you get about 100 or so kanjo onto your head you will hit a plateu and the rest of the kanji will be easy to learn. It's actually simpler than it seems if you are a visual person that is...

My sister back packs around the world. We live in the UK. She learnt German at school and has NEVER used it in her travels, everyone either speaks English, Spanish or French, so i would recommend either Spanish or French for Europe, but their is no reason why your Grandmother couldn't teach you Italian as well.
