Not very many although it doesn't take much. Look how many Americans were required at the Alamo that were able to hold off the Mexican army for awhile. It was a few dozen against hundreds and the hundreds had cannons.

The estimate was between 10,000-25,000 a couple of years ago (about as many Bloods in California) out of over 26 million Iraqis (less than the population of California). Meanwhile there is about 135,000 Iraqi police officers and about Iraqi 250,000 soldiers.

If I take your words literally ie "armed violence "then the number is probably very high. Given that 12,000,000 Iraqis voted last year that means there were about 16,000,000 people of voting age and probably capable of armed violence. Ok lets say 10% of those are too old to shoot a weapon -leaves 14.400,000. divide by two = males only ,leaves 7.200,000 Given even 1% that equals 72,0000. The answer I guess depends on who you ask and what side they are on but I bet more than one in every hundred are involved.
