My laptop has this problem that it hangs at "Windows is shutting down" sometimes. I tried Adaware&Spybot and it only helps a little.
It doesn't hang as often.
I was just wondering would it be a good idea to do shutdown -s -f everytime I turn the machine off.
Will that cause any problem to my laptop?

Using the command is absolutely fine. It is there for a reason! However, that -f parameter worries me. If occasionally you have to shutdown with the -f parameter, it is absolutely fine. However, I do not recommend it for regular use. Various processes are best if shutdown the correct way. Let Windows do its job when shutting down. I highly recommend you research the program that is not shutting down by looking at the task manager (alt+ctr+del) and resolve the problem. If you cannot do anything at all, it is alright to use it. It shouldn't really hurt the operating system. Programs that are running won't get a chance to save, so be aware of that. Actually, any running program risks being hurt. There is no way to predict that. My advice is to be careful about shutting down and make sure that every program you have since start up is closed. System monitors should be alright if left running but things like messengers and torrents should probably be turned off manually.

i don't think it's really that safe, because the -f parameter kills the processes without warning, at least that Microsoft tells in the shutdown command help. so, doing that could interrupt a process while doing something. i used the -f parameter and can shutdown your applications faster, but i don't know if it applies to windows services too. i think windows services can't be just shutdown faster. maybe some broken service causes your computer to shutdown very hard, and using shutdown -s -f would not really help. but in theory, it shouldn't cause any problems using it. hope this helps.

it won't cause any problems but you need to find out what the problem is with your system hanging.
