Why is it that people who don't beleive in a God take so much pride in doing so?
Is it because they don't like being pushed around?
They're too scared to be called scared?

Basicly, don't you wish you had something to define you? Something more noble to stand for?
Life sucks without something to beleive in, I mean, lets freaking face it people.

Honey... I can't deny something that doesn't exist to be denied.

I think acknowledging truth and adhering to rationality and reason are extremely noble ventures, especially when the majority of the world's inhabitants seem bent on embracing views based on blind, baseless faith.

I take pride in recognizing reality. I take pride in critical thinking. I take pride in freedom from the constraints of dogma, from feeling compelled to defend the indefensible. And you may feel that YOUR life lacks all semblance of meaning without religious faith, but thankfully that's not how it works for the rest of us.

I won't answer for all atheists, but I wouldn't say I'm proud of my beliefs, but I will defend them just as you would defend your belief in God.

I think part of the reason why many atheists are so vocal in their beliefs is not because of pride but rather to try and make sure their voice is heard and their rights are not denied. Even a Christian would have to acknowledge that the political climate under George Bush hasn't exactly been inviting for non Christians.

Now, you assert a couple of ideas that are just plain ignorance. Are we too scared to be called scared? I'm not scared of anything. I have my beliefs and if anyone has a problem it's their problem. Frankly, I could ask a lot of Christians if they are scared to question the church.

I do not need a make believe religion and god to define me. I am defined by the choices I make and how I live my life.

I value personal freedom, kindness and respect of others. I value every person's right to be heard and to better themselves. Are those values not noble enough for you?

You say life sucks without something to believe in? Have you ever tried it? Being able to attribute life's struggles to God does not seem reasonable to me

Yeah, life is totally meaningless without some irrational belief system that involves talking burning bushes and pregnant virgins. And don't forget that fictional sky daddy that will send you to be burned and tortured in hell forever (a fate I wouldn't even wish on my worst enemy) if you even think about having fun... but don't forget he loves you.

Then there's this brilliant quote from the post above mine:

"So, to an atheist, God does exist...He has to in order for the atheist to deny Him." - ava

That makes no sense. So, according to your logic, if I say the easter bunny doesn't exist, then that proves he exists. What a joke!

Pride is characteristic of those who deny God. God calls them fools. (Psalms 10:4; Psalms 14:1) Anyone who chooses to deny God becomes a prideful fool....it's my opinion that they can't help it. And, furthermore, a "fool takes no pleasure in understanding" God, "but only in expressing his opinion" that God does not exist. (Prov. 18:2)

SETH, an atheist is very contradictory in stating "there is no God." by claiming God does not exist, he has basically admitted to the existence of God. If God has never existed, how would he know to even mention Him? Think about it. Try talking about something that has never existed and see how far you get. So, to an atheist, God does exist...He has to in order for the atheist to deny Him. IT'S FOOLISH FOR AN ATHEIST TO TRY AND DENY SOMETHING WHICH (they claim) HAS NEVER EXISTED! God is right---they are fools!

HARRYWENT...you did not really read what I said (smile)...or you would have understood how illogical atheism really is. Regarding the Easter Bunny....for you to deny the Easter Bunny's existence means that the Easter Bunny has to exist....whether as a concept or a reality... in order for you to deny it. Otherwise, how would you have known about it? You cannot discuss, teach, argue, or deny something which has NEVER existed! That is totally illogical.

By the looks of of how believers act on this site and elsewhere (and I'm a believer myself), I'd feel mandatory to assess myself and claim for my rights of NOT being a believer.

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Prejudice and intolerance coming from believers are bound to beget prejudice and intolerance from non-believers. Why not live and let others live?

I dont know, i like the fact that im athiest because it shows something about a person. It shows that this person has actually looked at things from both sides and have made a logical decision based on facts and logical reasoning. It shows that the person didn't just jump into the first religigion they where exposed to that made 'their' life make sense.

That's rich, coming from someone who denies reality. How interesting it is that you criticize atheists for not believing yet you do nothing to stop the US's illegal religious war in Iraq, you do nothing to stop the pedophiles in the catholic church, you do nothing to stop Pat Robertson advocating terrorism and assassination, you do nothing to stop religious terrorists like James Kopp and Eric Rudolph, etc.

How unsurprising that you don't live by your own religion's rules, especially the one about "don't point out a speck in someone's eye while you have a beam in your own".

If you want to have your religion, go to church.

If you want atheists to have your religion, go to hell.

So, You think it is better to believe in a lie than to be aware of the truth. I prefer to be aware of reality, at least as much of it as I can be. God is a lie.
Face it, being a dupe sucks.

There are only two choices atheism or nihalism. I choose to believe in the world as it is rather than nothing.
