French is the most useful at a global level (parts of Africa, Middle East, Carribean, Asia also have people who speak French as a first or second language). French is still considered a diplomatic language. If you have already studied Italian, French will be easier to pick up than German since French and Italian are related. Figure out why you want to speak a language -- for cultural reasons, for career prospects, to travel in a specific region and that will help narrow down your choice.

I think you should first find out what you want with the language. Are you just learning it for fun or... And after you learned it can you still practice it. If you stop speaking it you forget a lot of things.

I learned German, English and French at school. For me it's very handy to speak German because I live close to Germany. But most Germans speak English. I think that its harder to find someone who can speak English in France.
So if you want to use the language I think it is better to learn French.
In Germany it is easy to find people who speak English.

I haven't spoken French for a long time. Last summer I was on a bicycle trip in France. There were a lot of people, also in restaurants who couldn't speak English. They were very friendly but I wished I was still able to communicate in French. I could order coffee, wine and things like that.

I would say take both French and German and not Italian. Italian doesn't have that many speakers and once you learn French, Italian is pretty much intelligible when reading. German is also very useful in Europe and in the science and engineering field. I would say however LEARN SPANISH if you live in North America. And if you learn French and German first, you can learn all the other Germanic and Romance languages very quickly.

I am german and I have to admit: take french. Anyone in Germany can speak english (especially younger ones) and french is sooo sexy! German is said to be quite difficult to learn (as far as I know, I didn't have to learn very hard though, haha) and actually there's not many countries where you can use it (I assume we don't have many former colonies).

If your Italian is already fine and you're lazy, then maybe you should take Italian and you won't have to study very hard. It's also sexy, but more in a macho way, whilst french is sooo romantic, wow! Especially for a girl! And: listen to lots of Gainsbourg! Gainsbourg est phantastique!

So: best choice is french. Go to Paris for shopping a dress, go to Rome to find your boy, then go to Berlin for clubbing. Have fun ;)

Take all three, but if you want to choose, take French. It's more romantic and sounds the best.
