You need a transformer - 240v to 110 - and as for the idiot who said to buy a plug adapter - CAN I WATCH WHEN YOU PLUG IT IN PLEASE?

Probably not.
The voltage in the UK is 240v and hence you would fry a 110v device. (and that makes a nasty smell).
However it does depend on the device. Alot of things now days have a multivoltage transformer, e.g. most laptops have this as they are portable. On the transformer it will have a voltage rating which says input 100-240V and then an output voltage (sticker on the power supply unit). If you device does have this range then yes you could replace the plug and use it.

Your best bet is to buy a transformer which reduces the 240v current to 110v. You can buy these anywhere as tradesmen on UK building sites HAVE to use 110v equipment. Don't forget when you purchase to check that it is powerful enough to cope with your machine. If you don't know then ask the supplier. Don't forget the cable connections are different to the USA.
('Machine Mart' comes to mind for buying such things).

The UK runs on 240v @ 50 hertz where as the USA and Canada run at 110 @ 60 hertz. You'll need a converter.

Most answers are correct. However, you may have a problem with the frequency. The United States uses 60 cycles while the United Kingdom uses 50 cycles. If your equipment says 50-60 cycles, then you will be all right.

You will need to change the power supply unit in the computer to enable you to use the computer safely, as you know the electric supply here in the UK is 240 volt's.
the other method is a converter, so that the 240 volts can be reduced to 110 volts. good luck

You might find a switch on the back of your machine which changes the voltage..... Otherwise you need converter.

nope you'llblow it up. You'll need to get a voltage converter, which can be expensive, depends on what machine it is and how much it costs if its worth it.

No. We run on 240v so you'll fry the machine (whatever it is).
