I turned on my computer today and when I turn it on it flashes a blue screen and then gives me a message saying:"we apologize for the inconveinence but windows did not start successfully. It then gives me the option of starting windows normally which I did, but then it just restarts, and repeats the process. I've tried all of the options it gave me, but it just restarts and repeats the process. Can someone please help me?

Hi there, and ouch, been there, done that .. hehs.

The Blue screen you see is a BSOD from XP, which is set to automatically restart on that kind of error. Unless you can pause the screen or read what the error is, it may be hard to see what the problem is.

The first thing I would do is remove any new hardware that might have been installed, unplug any external devices like printer, scanner, camera, and so on, and then reboot to see of anything changes.

If that doesn't work, put in that XP CD again and go into the CMOS setup and make sure the Boot Order is set to CDROM first BEFORE the hard drive. With the CD in, when you restart, you should see a message "Press any key to boot from CD...".

Once in the XP setup from the CD, go to Recovery Console. Once logged in there, run "CHKDSK /R /F" and see what happens.

Hope this helps

Widows seems to be corrupted. So the first thing you can do is try repairing your installed windows by booting up from the windows CD. If it doesn't continue properly or gives the same problem after wards then its a hardware issue.

Possible hardware issues are:

1. Bad Sectors in you Hard Disk (run a full format and then install windows, which will detect the bad sectors and won't use those sectors ever.)
2. Memory problem (replace memory)

Does the message also include a stop error code? If so copy it down and then head to the microsoft website and search for that code. Did you try starting up in safe mode, F8, when the computer starts loading windows?

First.. As windows is booting.. (Press F8) Or in the window you see.. Select restart in safe mode.. Once in there go to system restore and restore to and early date...
Another thing to check..
Check the fans on your power supply and processor.. Make sure both are spinning.. I had the problem before and it was my processor fan stuck... (Dusty)... Cleaned it and everything worked fine.

Did you try booting it into safe mode?
There are a lots of reasons why this can happen, actually too many to try to narrow it down to just one without actually having your machine in front of me.
Call Microsoft's tech support number for your area and let them look it over remotely.

It sounds like a error in the config file, if you cant start up in safe mode and do a scan disk then i would recomend restore.

try to start in safe mode

If that doens't work try using your boot disk to recover any missing boot files. And of course if that fails call customer service.
