I remember from Psych 101 that it's called a "photic sneeze." It is a real, documented phenomenon. Unfortunately, I can't remember that exact mechanism of it. It can be hereditary though.

Some people are just photosensitive. It's likely that they also would sneeze if they woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and turned their bedroom light on, or even upon walking out of a building on a bright day.

i think looking at the sun isn't exactly what causes the sneezing.It's just that when you look at the sun your face tilts up so your nostrils are more exposed to the dust in the air.in that position it would be easier for particles to enter especially when you are inhaling.
