I know these two Agents personally. First off, let's clear the air, they were not working for any drug cartel!

Ignacio Ramos was nominated for "Border Patrol Agent of the Year" the year this happened.

They were sentenced to 11 and 12 years. No plea bargain. Although, less than 12 month prior to their conviction the prosecution offered them a plea of less than 1 year each. If anyone here is from the El Paso area you know how well liked the Border Patrol is there. This is a travesty.

Here is a link to a pretty clear story explaining the happenings.

If you read this and still think it is a miss use of power by some corrupt cops then there is nothing I can say to change your minds.

My understanding is that they fired 15 shots at him while he was running away. He was running away because he'd just been struck by one of the agents even though though he was not resisting arrest. Also according to the report I read, the agents had not yet discovered that he was running drugs.

LEO's (Law Enforcement Officers) have to obey the law like the rest of us. There are procedures for making arrest and there is a limit to how much force they may use in the execution of their duties. I have no doubt that there is more to the story than what is reported in the media but based on what I have seen reported then they were NOT doing their job, they were engaged in criminal activity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of law enforcement. But I'm not a fan of allow LEOs to get away with beating and shooting suspects when it's not called for.

The blame lies in politics. I heard they shot him in the butt. Seeing as how he was a drug smuggler, I think they should have killed him, and been given a medal. Our government's duty is to serve us, the US citizens, the taxpayers. They fail repeatedly to enforce immigration law, and fail to secure the border by inadequately supporting the border patrol.

The sentences these men were given is an atrocity. What a way to thank the men serving our country. I will sign your petition.

The ACLU is what is going on with this country. They have given criminals more rights than law abiding citizens. You need to log onto "JUDICAL WATCH," to read what all the ACLU is responsible for. Congress is trying to get them bailed out while they are waiting an appeal. I don`t know why Bush doesn`t pardon them. We should flood President Bush with emails and letters.

obviously there is more to this story than just your short version. They would not be in prison if they did not commit some type of crime. Secondly, if it was a plea bargain, then the offenders admitted some type of wrong doing in exchange for a lesser sentence. You do not go to jail for perform your job properly

Hmm...as much as border patrol agent's get in trouble for doing their job it makes me wonder if we don't have a border.
