If you are in the UK you will probably get income support and housing benefit until you reach retirement age. Check with Citizens' Advice Bureau.

Check with your local Social Security offices on claiming Incapacity benifit (there are some facts on the web page below) and dont forget to check with any work related pensions you might have, sometimes you can release some of the funds earlier than you might think. If you were 60 then you would qualify for Pension Credits too, but keep this in mind for when you do reach 60, as not a lot of people are aware of them. I hope this is helpfull, good luck.

Your local dhss department will be able to help or the citizens advice or dial (they all deal with benefits)if you ar unfit to work you should be entitled to incapacity benefit and depending on why you gave up work disability benefit, according to the amount of money coming into the house you may qualify for council tax, you really do need to get some advice as some of the benefits relate to monies coming into the household.Contact them asap as it may take a while to sort some of the paperwork out.

Join the club, I was told the same yesterday at the age of 50. You can disability living allowance and possibly inapacity benefit.

Maybe you will qualify for disability social security.
Gosh though sometimes it takes year(s) to get approved.

It's not great, but OK, look into food stamp program for your state. Also , look at the community action program in your area for advise and/or help.

Dont bother asking social sercurity,
they wont tell you everything that your entitled to cause they didnt tell my boyfriend...
but if you contact your local citizens advice centre they can tell you exactly what you are entitiled to
