was trying to make mac-cheese but realized I didnt have any milk. I noticed a very old can of pet evaporated milk in my cuboard so I opened it up and took a swig. It was horrible and sour. Then to my horror...I noticed the can said 1996(not an expiration date but just on the label somewhere.

1. Do can goods spoil at some point?
2. Will I get e-coli or somethin?

Cans absolutely spoil, eventually to the point that they explode. I can't answer your question about the health issues at stake for you....I don't know. But I would assume that if the can said 1996 then that WAS the expiration date. Call the ER for a consult perhaps?

Yes, canned goods can spoil and become dangerous for human consumption. If you've already ingested it; you'll have to wait for at least 3 hours for it to go through your digestive system to see what effects you'll have. In the meantime have a friend/loved one with you in case of emergency; have your doctor's phone number handy and also poison control's number handy.

PS ingesting laxatives like someone suggested is not a good idea. Laxatives might make you release everything that is in your bowels, however, you'll end up dehydrated and messing up the electrolyte balance in your blood, which could potentially cause worse problems.

You could very well end up with botulism. That's a common type of poisoning associated with dairy stuff, meat, canned goods and eggs.
Symptoms can take hours or days to show up and include: double vision, blurred vision, ptosis, muscle weakness or paralysis, difficulty speaking, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing and nausea.

had the top bubbled upward? that is a sign never to use it.
you should probably take the milk and go to the er. odds are they will have you take charcoal and vomit it up if it is anything serious. better safe than sorry. go the er. or like someone else said, call poison control. do it now, not later.
