I'd suggest taking some child development classes in order to help you out. They can not only help you understand children at different age levels, determine what is appropriate or not, but can also give you some good experience in what children are all about. Taking care of children is not easy... it requires a TON of patience, humor, love, patience, creativity, trial-and-error, and patience! As much fun as they are, they are also a lot of work! Children are fabulous, inspiring, enthousiastic people, who find fascination in everything. They value truth, and can tell when people don't like children, are just tolerating them, or are lying to them. When answering questions from children, be as honest as you can. If you don't know the answer, say so, then find out together what the answer is. Kids love to ask questions, never tire of finding out information, butt their noses into every conversation, and believe that the world revolves around them. The upside of this is that they learn at an amazing rate, discover new things daily, find wonder in the simple things, and are easy to entertain. Again, I'd recommend taking some classes on child development so that you know what to expect, but nothing prepares you for taking care of children like actually doing it.

lol be funny and tell him " because I drank a lot of mocha! " lol i don't know you should take a child development class. whenever you get the chance take that class... I really loved that class & I suggest it to everyone who is around kids/ have kids/ or are thinking about becoming parents. Good luck you'll do fine. :) I remember this little girl asked me why my hair was green and i told her " because I don't wash my hair!!" I actually bleached my hair and dyed it green at that time by the way :D but yea ... you can either be funny or straight forward in a nice way with kids.... :) good luck :) talk to the parents also and find out what makes the child go to sleep and if he needs to be rocked to sleep... or how he really is so you won't freak out :P

It depends on how old the kid is. You can tell him that people, as anything in nature, come in different colors. Why not?
As for the suggestions, just try to REMEMBER how you were his age, the things you liked and disliked when you were his age, and half of the work will be done. Ask the parents which rules should be followed when you babysit, too.. Good luck!

Because everybody's different, if we were all the same it would be boring.
I always found if I treated kids with respect, talked to them like they were just short humans we got along great. For babysitting, get an age appropriate video to watch, or some games to play. Easy to clean up crafts are also fun. When the parents get home little Janey can show what she made for them. You'll be surprised how sharp kids are and how they interpret the world around them. A little girl once told me "I don't want to grow up and have a baby, I don't want to have to pee on that little stick!"

How old are the kids before???....age has ALOT to do with how to handle them. The key is when you first meet them is to always be in pain or make loud noises. If you pretend to hit your head or bang your shins on a coffee table kids eat that stuff up....they'll giggle for hours and you'll gain their confidence and interest in you. Loud clap noises and throwing couch pillows at them is also entertaining and before you know it, they'll be all over you pulling your hair (in a playaround way) and strapped to your leg laughing with content. Using funny words and faces is a must.
The WORST thing you can do is to treat kids as adults. DON'T shake their hand when you first greet them and don't try to indulge in intelligent conversation with them....that makes them lose interest in you and then they will get bored and complain.
I'm not a scientologist but i DO have two rugrats of my own and what i said holds true to having fun and gaining their interest! Good luck and happy sitting!!!!!!!!!

it really depends on the kid's age. Asking about your skin color is perfectly acceptable if he's young, just be matter-of-fact about things. Babysitting is no exact science, just find out what he likes to do, his strengths and weaknesses and it might even be fun. I've babysat hellions and angels lol. Also remember that he's a kid and he's going to ask stupid questions, do stupid things, and he probably can't help it, just part of being a kid. Good luck!

Try to be patient. Kids are innocent. Honesty is the best policy when tackling difficult questions. Explain to him that people not all the same. Tell him that some people have dark skin, some have light skin, some have brown eyes, some have blue, some people can't walk, or hear or see.....you get the picture.

Must of been a smart kid to know mocha anyway kids are kids there easy to deal with ,yes they ask questions that might be rude but all you have to do is tell them it bothers you and to please talk about something else or ignore them completely because they don't even know what there saying ,you should have told him because god loves me he would have been fine with that.

I have 2 kids of my own. I take it one minute to the next. When you're confronted with the tough questions, just remember how old the child is. Keep it age appropriate. Sometimes I answer "I don't know, what do you think" That can work well with younger ones.

Because God made me this way.
Try to keep a sense of humor, and remember when you were that age! Kids are a big challenge but also a lot of fun. Keep the mind and body in action and the rest will be easy, feed them!!
