Go to YAHOO! and type in "dog breed selector" Several questionnaires will come up. They will ask you about your lifestyle and preferences. This should give you a good idea about the breed good for you. Once you get it narrowed down, go to akc.com and look at the breed standard. then you may want to volunteer at a shelter or rescue so you can meet the dogs in person and see if you connect. Another resource might be to go to a dog show. Whatever you do, don't go to a pet shop or a backyard breeder

If you want a loyal companion who wants to sit around with you all day eating and watching tv I know a good dog for you. If you want a dog that has loads of personality like cramer I know a dog for you. If you want a dog to take on long walks and scare away intruders I don't know what dog you should get. If you want a little fat kid to sit and stare at you and make you laugh I have a great dog for you. You might want to think about getting a Pug. Read up on them though. There are a lot of good resources on the net such as http://www.pugs.com/ for you to see if they are really the breed for you. I am partial though so what ever you get do A LOT of research.

since there are so many different breed with temperaments and special needs .. i would go to the library and take out a book on small dogs and read up on them and then decided..my favorite is Pomerania... never owned one though i just like how they looked and that is not a good enough reason to own one..kinda like choosing a bf on looks alone

Please adopt from your local animal shelter.I promise that the dog will know that you saved its life & will be forever grateful. How about an older dog that will like to just relax in the house on its own doggie bed.
