Why do men act so damn macho 100% of the time in public but when their gf/wives take them home they act the way we fell in love with them? My boyfriend is 6'4, Black hair, Tattooed and thinks he is the coolest and most envied guy on earth! He goes out in public and always trys to protect me like I'm weak and yet when we get back to the appartment I have to save him from a spider! He is so sweet and true when we're alone. Like he will do things like send flowers to my work, but even then he gets seen as the macho man by his friends! Is there any hope in beaking this persona?

It goes back to more early instincts.

You look big and tough to the other males around. You strut. You show off. Basically to show dominance over them, or because you're warning them to not try anything with 'your girl.'

And since you're not trying to be intimidating to the woman you're with, you go mushy and sweet because you 'know' that's what they want, and hope that it will get you what you want (sex, food, love, happiness, etc.).

It's also probably more representative of the true personality (at home); a shield goes up in public that comes down when you're alone with your loved and trusted one.

How can he be the coolest and envied when I'm the coolest and envied!! There's that macho thing again...

I think he may have some insecurities and is compensating for this. Kind of like how insecure people always have to make fun of others to make them feel better about themselves (how unsophisticated).

He may envision himself as the alpha male among his guy friends. Perhaps he pictures himself as a man's man. The man that men look up to - and feels that he has to live up to his self perception.

I find it to be silly, primitive and obviously shows that a person is conscientious and sensitive of how other people judge and perceive them. I consider it a weakness. j/k

Have a talk with him and ask him what makes him need to show such over the top bravado. Perhaps he'll bring it down a bit once he realize that's it's looking a bit pretentious and silly.

Or perhaps he's shameless like me and don't care if he looks stupid?

What do you think of that answer huh? YEAH!! WHO'S THA MANG! HUH! WHO'S THA SHIZZNIT!

I'll settle down now.

Good luck.

all blokes like to be seen by their friends as the one in charge of the relationship not the one that gets scared of things straight out they like to show off and try and prove they're the 'bigger' person of the two

As long as he isnt disrespecting you then its ok.

Most guys are hardwired to be protectors.

But it is good that he is real with you ad u know his true colors.

He doesnt want people to see him as a weenie, so be glad you have a strong guy, its sexy in my opinion.
