Today is -22, wind chill is -40. My 2.2 86 Dodge needs more cranking power and needs to fit in the Battery mount, or i can extend that myself if i have to. Right now i have a 5 year old 750 Amp, and 630 cold cranking Amp. Is there a Battery that has more cold cranking Amps that i can get for my 2.2. I understand 5 years is probebly a death for Batterys. Give me some good Bat. brands to check out. I really want to blow the socks off of this 2.2 when the weather gets this cols in north Minn. Thanks, Six

Get the recommended battery for your car. 5 years is plenty to kill a battery, although they can last longer. Plus if you've ever drained the battery even once you probably damaged it (ie if you left your lights on and had to jump it).

A new battery wont give you any problems, no need for anything more powerful. And if a new battery doesn't do it you may have a bad alternator.

Man, oh man, I wish I could give you a better answer, but here goes. . . I'm great with electrical troubleshooting, but batteries specifically have been an enigma for me. As far as physical dimensions go, I don't know, you need to be carefull about changing your battery size in terms of cranking amps/ Amp hours. You need to make sure your alternator can do it's thing on the battery, I'm not sure, but I think a larger battery if it isn't being cycled will die quicker, I'm sure someone will post who is more knowledgeable than me on this topic. As far as brands go, (as much as I dislike wal-mart) I recommend the Everstart battery from Wal-mart. . . There is never a hassle (outside of a long wait perhaps) to get your battery replaced with them. They have good overall warranty, with good prorates. You may get a bad one or two, but usually, you get it switched, and your warranty starts over. I haven't bought a battery in years because of this. It's kind of cheating the system, but hey, batteries are expensive! If you carry tools with you, you can bring in your old battery (for the core) and change it yourself, that takes care of the wait.

Two words: Gel cell. Sealed high cca battery that can be mounted upside down even. does not mind being completey drained. they take vibration and abuse very well. no liquid acid in them. Optima is one brand. They kinda look like a six pack. Remember a normal battery has a short life if it is completetly drained down even a few times. I work at a car dealership. We are always having to replace brand new batteries because they got fully discharged because a customer left lights on or dome light on.

install a coolant heater and your dodge should start better.
