Sure Christianity is the dominant religion in the USA, but why not challenge other faiths equally?

Christian Politicians don't count in this as most are the worst examples of Christian morality in my opinion.

To Yahoo answers: If this question is deleted I will make a loud ruckus as it is neither insulting nor in poor taste.

Or, why not have atheists challenge other God based faiths as much. Christianity is not the only one. I think, they do not challenge the other faiths as much, because they don't pose as much a threat. Now, this is not met kindly, by those that believe that, but I am answering honestly. They will say, that christianity poses some kind of threat to their lives, on some level, which is just goofy. There is more going on here, than meets the eye, when you get a christian and an atheists debate going. It is hard to deny, even if you cannot pin your finger on it. I will be curious to see what they answer, but I think I know what the answer is. If they really did just disagree only, and know we were wrong, why not just feel pitiful for us, or sorry for us, etc.? But why the incessant going back and forth, about a "supposed" God, that does not "exist", in their words, anyway? It truly makes no sense.

Since you even felt the need to ask that question, it is doubtful that you would understand any honest, direct answer. It would be impossible to give you a complete listing of the many reasons Christianity is the target of scorn by thinking people. However, I submit the following in the hopes that you will actually give this some thought.

The Bible is the most widely published book of all time. It describes a faith based belief in a God (that is directly credited within the pages of the text) of creating a a race of inferior beings whom he condemns for their inferiority.

Further, the Bible is filled with vile acts of murder, hatred, misogyny, slavery, incest, pedophilia, rape, and worse, committed by both the creator (God) and his most devout worshipers. Moses, Abraham, and the whole cast of the Old Testament are people that would make Dr. Kurt Heissmeyer look like an excellent pediatrician...

Now the creators (Gods) solution to the dilema seems to be that by sending someone else to deal with his mistakes, mankind will be redeemed. That person, Jesus Christ, is strongly of the opinion that all of the grief, anguish, murder, starvation, racism , and hatred attributed to the creator (God) are somehow good qualities that men all should recognize and be appreciative of.

Bible Fun Fact:
Per scripture, Jehovah is personally responsible for roughly 2.3 MILLION murders that can be counted visa vi scriptural body counts in the Old Testament, as well as an unknown number of a few million more for which the Bible offers no death toll. Satan is responsible for about 20 murders, and he had to get Gods permission to commit them...

As I stated earlier, The Bible is the most widely published book of all time. Not surprisingly, believers in the book have caused more war and bloodshed in the name of their God than any other religion. What I find interesting and simply amazing is that after 2000 years of Christianity, people still deny the existence of their Gods attrocities (as well as their own, commited in his name) and try to claim that the faith is based on love, peace, sunshine, and roses. Coupled with Christianity's other outlandish beliefs, these things make Christianity a pretty obvious target.

Even more amazing is that they insist that their belief in a barbaric and cruel God somehow makes them more moral than people who do not share their faith. In the United States, Christianity influences laws, commerce, entertainment, sexuality, and virtually every aspect of life in some way, shape, or form. These influences are the product of a thinly veiled belief that the vicious nature of the Biblical god is actually worthy of our faith, rather than our scorn and rejection.

So it is with Islam, Judaism, and many other religions in other countries around the world.

However, Judaism is an inclusive faith. One must be born a Jew to truly be a Jew. Their faith is based on racism. As such, they do not try to indoctrinate people into their belief system.

On the other hand, Islam is so transparent in it's claim to be a religion of love that it is almost too laughable to give any credence to the validity of the claim by discrediting it. Perhaps, if Muslims in Islamic countries didn't feel the need to kill people for speaking out against that religion, you would find a great many more atheists in those countries.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your question, but the Yahoo forum cops are perhaps the most nearly brain-dead persons on the face of the planet, so who knows? As for your question, Christianity is the predominant religion among the English speakers who use this forum, so most of the screeds in favor of religion are from putative Christians. This, of course, invites responses from people who know better.

Christianity is the religion I was raised in and so understand it the most. It is mostly Christians who are vocal on this forum. I do take on muslims as well. However, many times they ask obscure doctrinal questions, and I haven't studied the Koran like I have the Bible.

I too have never been harassed, insulted, or threatened with hellfire by a buddhist, or a pagan. So even though I find their ideas silly too, I generally leave them alone.

Christians are important because in the USA at least, they occupy many seats of power in government and industry. I am not comfortable with people sharing a delusion having so much power to affect my life.

If George W Bush gave a speech saying he had telepathically communicated with an Invisible Pink Unicorn....and it is the Unicorns will that you use nukes on Iran....well, he would be hauled off to a hospital and loaded up with antipsychotics. (then Cheney would push the red button anyway, but you get my drift)

Now if you substitute prayer for telepthic communication , and God for Invisible Pink Unicorn....you see my take on GWB's belief and worship of Bible-god

Well, I'm an atheist and I don't target anyone, personally. I have nothing against religion in general, or any religion in particular. My only problem is the legislation of religious ideas (but as you've already noted - you're not talking about politics). So I would venture to say that its the Christian habit of trying to 'save' us that turns us off. We atheists are perfectly happy and don't wish to be saved. So that would be my guess. I once saw a t-shirt with the slogan "Lord, save me from your followers". I think that about sums it up ;)

at the starting up, i imagine what they objective is a particular "type" of Christianity, yet some causes for that are: precisely what you suggested about the structure--you'd be shocked to entice close what number Christian fundamentalist imagine that the section about conserving faith out of the regulation purely applies to "different" religions. Buddhists don't have the numbers or the inclination to implement their beliefs on everybody by regulation. Secondly, countless athiests grew up in Christian homes or surrounded with information from Christianity. They understand the lies, contradictions, evasions and practices of Christianity. it is like the proverb about the poacher and the gameskeeper.

Atheists target christianity becuase Christians are the only religion I know of that keeps begging and questioning why people don't believe in their religion. Christians think that their quest in life is to get more people involved with their religion. Just leave people alone. Everyone is entitle to their own thoughts.

My guess would be in your question. That is there are more of you. So more of you are asking questions for them to answer. We are all together in this debate club. Did you think of that? As far a politics go. It has no place in religous beliefs. It is corrupt, injust, and usually not in the best interest of the people it governs.

For christians to claim atheists target them is akin to a rapist claiming he was targeted after a woman stabbed him mid-rape. Calling someone else's self-defence an "assault" is vile beyond belief.

Atheists do criticize other "out of line" theists equally, you just don't hear about it. If John Smith called you mentally retarded or some other epithet, why would you tell Joe Blow to screw off instead of John Smith?

As I say to all religions:

1. If the religious want to have their religion, they can go to church.

2. If the religious want ME to have their religion, they can go to hell.

The religious will find their beliefs are respected more if they keep it to themselves. The alleged "problem" ALWAYS arises when the filthy - oops, 'faithful' - try to sell their product to others.

Because it's the radical christian movement that is constantly working to turn the United States into an officially christian nation, which it very clearly was not established as.
