I think your question is very immature, leaning towards offending many others and their beliefs by responses to this type of question. I hope all out here have the good sense not to respond except to let you know they don't appreciate such questions. For countless numbers of people, a big part of their individual identity comes under attack with questions of this sort.

You cannot categorize atheism as a religion or a cult. Atheism has no common set of beliefs that you can call any kind of philosophical or general conceptual scheme. It has no Bible or other quasi-holy object that symbolically represents anything.
A-theism means just what the word says (at least in the most general sense). Being an atheist is unrelated to an individual’s position on politics, crime, drugs, the weather, on even on what they think of religion in general, or any religion in particular.
Even most Christians maintain that God does not exert direct control on the reality-based world. Therefore, believing, or not believing, in God has no effect, because God does not do anything in our world, anyway.

1. Atheism is not a religion. Calling it one is like an amputee criticizing people who walk.
2. All religion is untenable. None have any validity. If challenged to present their magic tricks, theists run and hide. They don't have the balls to stand up for what they believe.

Is it really up to us to judge what others believe? This country was concieved with the intent of freedom of religion. I don't know why you are so narrowminded towards others. I have respect for all religions as long as they do not practice things that are against the law or go against my moral standards (murder, sexual things, and such).

My favorite is paganism. I don't want to bash the other's. I have no religon, but I think that there beliefs are the most interesting. The rest ALL the rest that I know something about seem a little scatter brained. And I also think that religon and cult are one in the same.
