Uk school girl not allowed to wear a religious cross, is this no longer a christian country, has pc gone mad, it seems imigrants can wear what they want and display their religion openly, but christians in their own country have to hide in the shadows, I am not a christian, but I think they should not be persecuted in their own country.

I agree with you on this one, this country (Government) no longer caters for the needs and wants of the majority (White British Christians) but bends over backwards to be seen to make it a country where immigrants are given the all the rights they request. As for the young girl you say is no longer permit ed to wear a cross when at school, this is wrong, provided the cross is not excessively large she should be allowed to wear it anytime/anywhere she wishes. If she were a Polish immigrant of which there are now many and the numbers rising, would she be asked to remove it, or would it be a case of we cant do that as she is not a British National and therefore we cant request her to remove as she is an immigrant and it would not be P.C.

I'm not a Christian; in fact I'm an atheist, but I believe people of all ages should be able to display their faith or their lack of faith in their own ways. However, it has to be universal - months ago, members of the UK government (Jack Straw and Tony Blair in particular) supported the removal of the Muslim veil because they "singled the wearer out as a member of a separate community". That's what started this nonsense off, and I remember saying at the time (cos I'm really annoying like that), "If you support this, it's the thin end of a wedge that'll come back to bite us all". Since then, BA have told a member of their check-in staff to remove her cross, and now we have this. Was fascinated by the other answer that said a goth had also been told to remove her pentagram. It's one thing or another - we either have to support EVERYONE's right to wear their religious symbols, or agree that none can be worn. I don't want to be responsible for making people of any faith feel minimised, victimised or ghettoised, so I say yes, wear the cross, wear the veil if you want to, wear the pentagram, hell, even wear the upside-cross if you're a Satanist and feel particularly inclined to. I do not believe the State or your employer has the right to dictate your expression of faiths.

It just shows how scared people are of upsetting the wrong people. Personally I think it is a breach of human rights. Who can say what we can and cannot wear around our necks let alone anything else.
I am not christian but Muslim and I think it is disgusting that anyone should be treated like this. What makes it worse is that people say it offends other religions which is RIDICULOUS.

If the powers that be actually asked the public for their views on whether they were offended or not they would have their answer in black in white and realise how stupid they are being.

We all our rights and no one would stop me from wearing a cross if I wanted to.

We should all stand firm on this one, it's political correctness gone mad. We are suppose to be a free country, and I for one won't be bullied by people who haven't got anything better to do; than make stupid rules!

Also, I'll fly the flag of my country, if I want to. I can't see any authority bringing a case against me and winning.

I am not racialist in the slightest, this comes from a different angle. My freedom, our freedom.
Isn't that why people come to this country?

Oh, sorry, I have a habit of answering a question, and end asking one. A slap on the wrist for Cassandra...

I believe that the latest trick is to pass it off as a danger under the health and bloody safety act, thank you Mrs T, and say that she can wear it as a brooch on her jacket instead.
Actually, if you're REALLY honest about it, it IS a chain round her neck which could be used to half choke her if some idiot was so disposed. Just a point to note - I'm against all this PC and religious nonsense, so don't get me wrong.

I would continue to wear my cross and the government can just pay for me to go to a private Christian school if they want to hide me. I'm in the U.S.A. and it happens here that we make accomodations for everyone and are expected to change for them. Christianity does NOT promote hate or violence, it's the exact opposite.. a cross does not hide anyone's identity so that they can not be recognized, so let the girl wear her cross. I'd laugh at anyone that told me to remove mine and I'll call the local television stations and give them a whopper of a story.

I'm a Muslim and I totaly agree with you, this country is going PC mad. And I don't know why people think someone wearing a cross is going to offend someone? Remember those FCUK t-shirts? They would cause more offence than someone wearing a cross.

This helps no one and makes the religious minorities in Britian look intolerant, when often they have nothing to do with the decision.

firstly this is NOT a christian country and secondly its no jewellery allowed for the whole school so why should she be allowed to bend the rules? if she needs to have it near her she can put it in her pocket it doesn't need to be on show. I would take my jewellery off religious or not and expect my son to do the same.

its not about religion its about safety I'd rather my child came home intact and not ripped up because of a piece of metal, people will always complain!

the removal of crosses and chains is the beginning of the removal of all religous material in schools, but do you know what the cross and chain can bs replaced by a half shaved eyebrow, or one shoe plished more than the other,
this form of control is abuse, punishing abuse, and should be stopped, any form of the denial of freedom only enables segregation fear mistrust, and just leaves the individuals damaged.
my answer is try to stay away from people abusing you
