It could be many things: Mange, Diet Change, Allergies, etc... When you change diets on a dog, you should never just give them a different kind of food. It has to be done slowly, because it really upsets their digestive system, if you suddenly just change its food. Don't buy the cheap food, because it's very unhealthy for a dog. They need the proper nutrients to remain healthy. I have five Chihuahuas and my vet recommended, that I use, Royal Canin 28 - Canine Health Nutrition Mini Chihuahua. It's specially made for Chihuahuas. They have a puppy formula and an adult formula. Mine love it and its very healthy food for them. You can find it in your local pet store. Just take some of the food you were feeding your dog before, and mix it with the Royal Canin. Start off, with more of the old food, with a little of the new food mixed in, and everyday stowly, add more of the new food, to the old food until it's just eating the new food, and stick to the new food. It might not be such a bad idea to take your dog to the vet, and make sure that the problem, is the diet, and not Mange or Allergies or something else. The vet is the only one who can tell you exactly what the problem is and how to treat it.

Hair loss can be due to a diet that is deficient in vittamins and
protein that your dog needs. So buy good quality kibble, my
chihuahua likes Nutro Max Small Bites Kibble. The pet stores
also sell vitamin mixtures that can be put on the kibble, but if
you feed her a balanced diet, she shoulcn't need that. I make
a chicken soup with brown rice and add sliced raw carrot, I put
it in small plastic containers and freeze them, keeping one in
the refridgerator and putting 2 teaspoons on her kibble for
dinner. She really likes it and gets extra protein and vitamins
from that (plus it helps keep her from getting bad doggy breath,
which often is caused by the "by-products" that end up in
canned dog food.) She get a teaspoon of cottage cheese
and about 15-20 pieces of kibble for her breakfast. And I try
to keep her treats down to 1 or 2 small biscuits a day, that way
she doesn't have a weight problem. (buy my landlord is really
soft-hearted and gives her 3 or 4 if he is home, so when he
is around, she puts on a little extra weight, so I have to cut back
on her kibble) You could also put some raw egg on her kibble,
that's really good for the coat.

Loosing hair is not because of particular food. It is because of so many reasons like deficiency of vitamins, change of weather etc.

there are many reasons a dog can loose fur--allergies, hormone problems (like thyroid problems), infectious diseases (ringworm, mange). You should bring him to a vet

Losing hair can also be a symptom of mange. Please take your dog to a vet.
