Rather than sliding the awkward slider. EG. Like in Quick time.
Seems strange Microsoft never thought of it?

It's got nothing to do with WMP, and everything to do with the type of video you're watching. If you're watching a dvd, you can click the FF button and fast forward no problem, but .avi files like Divx or Xvid aren't designed to be used that way, and the programs that "fast forward" through these files are really just jumping keyframes, which isn't any more exact or useful than just using the slider.

well, windows media player isnt a good player, check this...
go to download.com, download a software named "ACDsee player"....
it pretty cool, u cant raise the volume and do a fast forward or a rewind using ur arrow keys only.....
