You know who wants us out?

insurgents and the Mahdi Militia. EVERY Sunni and Shiite that I personally talk to, wants us to stay until there is security.

The media won't tell you that.

It's all politics. All about power, fame, money(oil), and control. We have made things so bad there in iraq, it's now like a tasty thorny cactus fruit. You can't swallow it, you can't spit it out either.
We are world famous for creating regional and policital instability. That way we can always remain as super power.
If you let the economy of other coutries become better, then one day we won't be super power anymore.
Divide and rule - Old British policy. Divide Iraq (civil war), conquer each piece by piece by taking the side of the civil war lords. And then when it's all reduced to 1 piece, then take control of it.

because president bush believe there is still a war to be fought and won. He is just stubborn from the beginning. personally fighting in this war for 4 years with the navy seal and conducting countless black operations, I don't why we are even here anymore. there would be a reason for me to stay in iraq because of 9/11 (I was there when the towers fell) but iraq has nothing to do with 9/11, fighting in iraq was a different mission, to remove Saddam and install democracy and maintain control. We should be out of iraq but our president is dumb enough not to listen to the people in Iraq, instead he was listening to his administration.

If I were Barbara Boxer I would tell you that you could not possibly understand because you were not an Iraqi. Since I am not, here is my answer. I returned in May and the Iraqis I spoke to all said they did not want us in Iraq. That is understandable, I would not want French soldiers driving around in the US. When I asked them if the US should leave, they all (without exception) said they wanted the US soldiers to stay. The papers have an agenda and they print what they want to print to support the views they have.

You have a good question here. As a veteran of the Iraq war, I'm asking the same question as well. However, the current Iraq government wants U.S. troops there to help bolster numbers and help train their instable security forces. Their government knows that if we pull out our 100,000+ troops, the insurgency will have a much easier opportunity to take over the country. Hope this helps. Thanks for posting.

when you read in newspapers that a certain country wants us out, it is only really a new head of the goverment of what ever certain country thinks they can handle their squable them selves, in the case of Iraq, they maybe able to handle any advances of the "bad guy" them selves but the US military now has several "Permanent" Bases over there, bases can only be closed by 2 ways, they are over taken by the enemy(HA!!!) or a Department of the Goverment called BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) takes the time and reviews the base and suits it no longer necessary, and which in those cases the base will take up to 5 years to close.

I think that the Iraq war is the greatest blunder in American history.

But having said that, can we now just 'get out'?

Won't the country just totally crumble into compele chaos if we withdraw?

And is Iraq still a country anyway? Or is it just a geographical are with several ethnic and religious groups who don't get along?

You obviously get your information from the big 5 news networks and of course, the NY Times. If you would stop listening to the drivel from the American Media (and most of the postings on this site) and educate yourself about what is really happening in the world, you would realize that our presence is appreciated, wanted and necessary. Do not believe me. Educate yourself and learn the truth.

i think slowly we will realize that the war is not about terrorism .. or helping the iraqi people ... its about american domination and securing energy and putting down any future threats to our "empire" while we are on top ... planning for the future as it were ... and facing the next superpower that is emerging ... China ... we arnt leaving the middle east anytime soon ... in fact, its escalating and i would bet we will be at war with iran and syria soon ...

We are trying to eventually hand over control to the Iraqis. But the more we get involved by sending more troops, the more they will rely on us. We need to step up more vigorous training and let them take over and handle their own problems. From what I understand, if they don't hold up to their side of the bargain, which I really don't know what that is, we will eventually start pulling out.
