January 22 to February 2 (weekdays only - not weekends - is Restaurant Week and some of New York's top restaurants are participating. There is a set price for a three course meal including appetizer, entree and dessert - lunches are $24.07 (because New York is a 24/7 city and dinners are $35.00. (Not including tax, tip, wine, coffee) Some restaurants are only serving lunch at this price and some are only doing dinner.

NEVER take someone you love to Tavern on the Green - it's a beautiful place, but the food is really bad.

Here is a list of the participating restaurants with their phone numbers and subway directions. There are no more reservations for Grammercy Tavern or River Cafe which are my top choices (I made my reservations two weeks ago)

Suggestions:

Tocqueville (warning: they make their own butter - I am sooo bad when I eat here)
Capsuto Freres
2 West
Cafe Centro
Post House
Craftbar
Brasserie 8 1/2
Perry Street
Madison Park
Rene Pujol
L'Impero - (the best polenta with wild mushrooms in the world)
Terrace in the Sky
(I am looking forward to trying Porter House - I've never been there before)

You and your mom will have a great time.

New York is having "Restaurant Week" for 2 weeks (i know- an oxymoron- it is 2 weeks). Check it out on the New York Tourism Board website. Big price reductions for great restaurants.
