Your soul is just dead. Your soul is your body. You stay dead until Jesus comes back and resurrects you. Your Spirit is your breath of life. When you die your breath of life goes back to God. This is what confuses people about death and going to heaven. In Genesis we read that God blew into Adams nostrils and he became a living soul. In Eccl. we read that when we die, we are dead. When Jesus went to resurrect Lazarus, he stated that Lazarus was sleeping, and he was going there to wake him. If Lazarus had been in heaven already, would that not have been cruel to bring him back to earth. Would not Lazarus had some memory of being in heaven, and would he not of told about it? When you die, you are simply sleeping, conscious of nothing.

Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die.
Ezekiel 18:4
We are all sinners, when we die our soul dies. There is no afterlife. There is however a hope for the future to live again by a resurection.
John 5:28
Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.

The soul leaves the body. That much we know.
The Bible also seems to indicate that the soul leaves our realm of TIME.
So, when we die in our time, we will get to the judgement throne of God at the same time as Abraham, David and all the saints who have gone before us.
1 Thess 4:13-18
13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.

Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
We are three-dimensional beings. Body, soul and spirit. Our body is the representation of who we really are. The soul is invisible but dies. For when we die we are temporarily dead, asleep to be raised again by God. All men shall be raised again whether evil or good. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (King James Version)
15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The Soul is the spiritual embodiment of a man, it's what animates the physical body. Bones is a physical reflection of the soul, bones never are destroyed, they go on and on and so does the soul. If a man comes to know his creator as he really is and actually excist, not how man teaches but as is revealed thru the spirit of God thru grace and faith, then that soul goes on to heavenly bliss forever, what some might call heaven. If the soul is not elevated and is dead because of seperation from a true understanding of his heavely Father, then it's final destination is the Lake of Fire or what some might call hell. For mankind, we make our own heaven or hell right here on Earth and whichever state we are in, is where we will remain forever. If you look around you, you will see in some instances reflections of heaven, and other instances reflections of hell thru the actions of mankind.

Many ppl whom have their own beliefs will tell u all kinds of answeres.I am a REAL Medium, To simply put it as I explain to those whom ask me, Is we r all in this physical world in 3rd dimensional energies, there r many dimensions ok,the most easiest & practical answer in which u can actually experiment for yourself,Is Fill your kettle with somw water! Then boil it, as the water boils the water changes to steam,Everything existing IS energy & enery can Never be destroyed,It has to change it's form either to a higher or lower dimension, but usually higher,if u liken this steam to the spirit or soul of a person whom has physically passed away, this is what they r doing, their energy transforms into the 4th Dimension,in which most ppl cannot tune into as they have closed minds regarding it,beliefs that closes of their minds,or they may pick up an uncanny ability with intuition,Please do the experiment, you will understand where I am coming from.
Honestly Yours,

Ezekiel 18:4 " THE soul that is sinning it itself will die"
Psalms 146: 4 " His spirit goes out he goes back to his ground and in that day his thoughts do perish."
Ecclesiastes 9: 5,6, 10
" For the living are conscious that they will die but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. Also their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun. All that your hands find to do do with your very power for their is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol( common grave) the place to which you are going."

What happens to our soul when we die?
I fixed your question up a bit before answering.
All souls belong to God. At the death of our physical body, our souls depart the flesh and are returned to God who created them. Beautiful is it not?><>

I believe it depends on the intent of the soul. Some may go on and remain in the Spiritual realm, some may choose to return.

You are your soul, so when you die, your breath (spirit- racha) returns to God and you rest until the Judgement... which will, probably seem like the twinkling of an eye... then you, body/soul, will receive your judgement.
