Midway was the actual point in time that the tide turned against Japan. The attacks on Dutch Harbor and the other Aleutian Islands was a feint to draw off the fleet in preparation for the operation at midway.

Coral Sea was the first time that two opposing fleets entered combat, but never actually saw each other. Several Japanese destroyers and light cruisers were sunk, and one American carrier was destroyed by a fire after the battle from combat damaged, and the fight was actually considered a draw.

Guadacanal was the first American offensive of the war, in 1943. Three Marine divisions participated in the landings, followed up by Army garrison units. This was the first blooding for most of the Marines.

I'm sorry, I've never heard of the Battle of Siam, (southeast asia), but I can only assume that the reference is to the American Volunteer Group, AVG, more commonly known as the 'Flying Tigers'.

Midway.
It was where the U.S. Navy really hurt the Japanese navy that was unquestioned in the Pacific at that time. U.S. naval planes jumped the attacking enemy round the horizon and bombed the Japanese fleet while they were trying to attack Midway. The Japanese fleet was permanently crippled right there and then when they lost 4 carriers (very important) and a cruiser and battleship. The U.S. forces holding Midway was extremely important, if they gave way and the Japanese took such a strategic spot in the Pacific, the hold Pacific rim would have been defenseless and open. The U.S. keeping Midway allowed them to supply the forces fighting in the Pacific and continued to serve as a essential harbor of the Pacific theater of World War II.
Midway was a important turning point at the war where the Japanese fleet was crippled but not killed nor eliminated. You have to remember that during the rest of the war, the U.S. forces still had to fight to the extremes to the radicalism of the Japanese forces.

d. Midway.

An earlier deciding point in the war: If our carriers would have been in Pearl Harbor on December 7 instead of out on maneuvers, The Pacific Theater might also have been very different.

No question about Midway. That defeat crippled the Japanese Carrier Fleet. If that wouldn't have happened the Japanese would have had more air support during our island to island Pacific Campaign. Marines are tough but you can only ask them to do so much. Imagine how many more of them we would have lost with the HEAVIER Japanese defenses.

I agree with the Midway answer. IMO this is not so much a victory as the US being able to check the Japanese fleet advance. The Japanese lost much face over their failure to achieve victory and breaking their confidence was one of the keys to their ultimate defeat. When the US blocked the Japanese move at Midway it gained valuable time for US industrial might to catch up, this was a major factor in Japans eventual defeat.

It's the Battle of Midway. One half of the Japanese naval strength was destroyed in this sea battle alone. After this battle, the Japanese navy lost its domination of the seas in the Pacific.
