Im a student of Psychology and from the day I took up Psychology I've been VERY excited about it!..I've studied for days, done research etc and now I feel as if all my energy has drained out!..I have no real interest in the subject but I DO want to have an interest and continue in this field. And I have to study because my exam is coming up!...what do I do?

This just happened to me.....................I am taking Career Development and my first course was all about the counseling aspect. Lots of psychology.................Textbooks have a tendency to be very dry, and repeat themselves often. This can definitely lead to boredom. The other thing I discovered is that a lot of the material forces you to take a good look at yourself, which can be frightening.I know after class I would often come home thinking, "I can't help people. I'm messed up!". I think that fear turns into avoidance, which then leads to boredom. perhaps I've been reading to many textbooks................................lol. If you are seriously interested in the subject, keep with it. What was once a pleasure has now become work, and that's a another reason for the tedium. To quote Stephen R. Covey-"Begin with the end in mind." Think about how the end result of your studying and hard work will help people and enrich their lives. That should motivate you. If it doesn't, talk to an adviser at school and see what they tell you. Good luck!

You have put a lot in to this, so just look at it as if you have hit a flat spot.

Take a small break & get back into it.

If that isn't what you want, do some hard thinking as to what you really want. The best way is to analize what you have gotten out of life to this point & how you can use as much of it as you can.
