There's a big weekend of traveling this weekend with some people from my church, and I want to go, but here it is after midnight Sat. morning and I'm already thinking of an excuse to get out of going. I always feel like no one wants me there, anyway. That could just be an excuse, though.

It's Avoidant Personality Disorder only if it happens frequently enough to interfere with your life. Otherwise, it's just a situational thing specific to the upcoming event.

Years ago I gave up trying to please people I really didn't care about pleasing and just gave the honest excuse that I didn't want to do what they did. What's the harm? Life got better when I started doing that.

Why not give it a try? What do you really have to lose? You'll be honest and you won't have to go. "Honesty is the best policy".

I noticed one responder who suggested that you had a choice between joining the Kingdom of God or joining the "enemy".

This is blatant nonsense. You have a choice of either going on a traveling vacation or not. Your status with regard to the "Kingdom of God" has nothing to do with a simple weekend trip. Try to ignore such insensitive advice.

If you really do have Avoidant Personality Disorder APD, you should probably see a therapist, psychiatrist, or other health care professional. They're equipped to treat you, not like some bully who says your membership in the Kingdom of God is at stake.

There are also internet forums for people who need support with APD. Here's one you can join with your Yahoo user id:

The people there are cool about this.

Good luck,

Yeah, agreed. Avoidance disorders, social phobias, anxiety--I found are best dealt with by not dealing with it at all. If you don't wanna go somewhere, talk to someone, hang out with someone, then don't and don't try to force yourself. You'll find it makes you feel alot better.

try to force yourself to go. you never know what might happen but even if you don't have a good time, you beat the feelings of not wanting to go-the excuses you work so hard on to get out of doing things. just really try and go.

It's your chance to practice bravery and courage. It's also impossible if church members, no matter how well-meaningful they might be, are snubs. Try to go and approach someone you know is aloof. You will be surprise of the result. In Kingdom of God, cowardice is absent. If you dont join the kingdom, which do you like to join? the enemy?
