I am having a difficult time getting work. I will be going to a temp agency soon and hopefully they will help me. But as a plan B, after this semester of college, I may join the military if I dont have work.
Why, first off like all other people, I need money in order to survive in today's society and also to marry a my highschool sweetheart. So I'm trying to work hard to attain those goals except no one wants to give the new guy a chance just cause I dont have much retail experiance or whatever else I need for work. Though I've sold my art during highschool. I was also a human directional, and also an artist assistant. I still no longer have work and need a job.
gah, now I'm just ranting. Anyways I know military provides housing for family and such. Will they do so right after I join or do I have to wait for a certain amount of time? Which branch should I get into and what should my goals be, in order to earn good wages , get education for other jobs, and be safe for my family?

Yes, I know what my duties would be for military.
First off, I have the ability to keep a job. The only problem was the company closed. Whose fault, company, not mine. My marketable skills are Flash, Adobe software, artwork, and enough charisma to make friends of darn near anyone I want to. Next person that thinks of giving an answer like RB42redsun should have a banana backwards. Or the M C chick, I am not in it to be a phony or whatever, I am trying to provide for my life and family, not to look like a hero.
All you vets that think your the bomb cause you risked your life for a country that is as messed up as it is, you can take the banana too. I dont care about fighting for this country, or whatever in a small thing like whats going on now. Next invasion/WW3, come find me in the front lines. Till then, my friends and family are more important.
so far it seems like air force or coast guard.
Thank you to the people who are actually taking me serious and not being 'turds'.

Thats it to you aholes that want to call me wussy or whatever. I quit a gang basically so that I could be with my girlfriend without worry, so I've had my share of backstreet fighting. We didnt kill anyone or get into major illegal activities. we were in it for the fight. So the next damn idiot who calls me anything like a wussy or thinks I'll easily get beaten down you can come to my door and get 1000 years of pain from my foot. AKA up your holes!
+plus I'm not simply going to ignore your answers, I'm going to get rid of them and have Yahoo dock ya 10 points. As my little F-you for not thinking logically. Stupid insane humans.

On another note, I fully support the military, its actions, etc. But I dont support patriotism. I support respect and guarding you country. But I dont support getting your *** killed for a bunch of people you dont know. I would easily jump on a granade for wife, family, and friends if they were being attacked. Going of to some distant land to fight in a small war that we shouldnt get into once we know we are not in danger, is just stupid to me.
So if I do join the military I will readily inform my 'superiors' (what a bunch of bullcrap that is) that I am not in it to get my *** killed instead of theirs. They want to fight, they can go fight. Not me. I'll make the programs, do promotional art, recruiting office, etc. let someone else die for all they think they're worth. For me military is the last choice before crawling through **** or any such gross job. I only want something that would earn me money and let me have a family.

you join because you want to serve, NOT to get money( you will NOT get rich in the military) . Military life is HARD on Families. I should know, I was a Navy Daughter for most of my life and am now a Navy Spouse. The benefits that your family could receive may not be enough if your spouse is not strong enough to handle 12 month deployments and tlong periods when you are away from home training ro whatnot.
THERE IS NO JOB IN THE MILITARY that does not have the possiblility of being put in harm's way.
The military is not an alternative to not finding a job in the civilian world. It is not a glorified Welfare Sytem. The hours are long, the work is hard and the lifestyle is not for everyone.

Hey, everyone has their reasons for joining, you don't have to be a flag waving patriot wanting to kill commies to serve, you just have to be willing to put up with a lot of **** for not as much pay in the civilian world, and if you decide you don't like it, well, deal with it cause you will need to serve the length of your contract. The AF or Coast Guard might be your best bet for not deploying but guarantees. Once you are married, you will be eligible for government housing or a decent stipend for civilian housing, regardless of rank. You and your spouse and dependants get full medical benefits, plus you get $400k life insurance (mandatory) for a pretty decent price. A word of caution...Your future spouse had better be prepared for you to spend a lot of time away from home. You may want to hold off getting married until you have been in a while and she (and you) are used to your new lifestyle. You won't get rich in the Armed Forces, but you can be comfortable. This is a big decision, and it shouldn't be made just because you need a job. This is a serious commitment and it can do a lot of damage to you if you go in for the wrong reasons.

For most jobs, the civilian world pays *way* more. Plus you've got a good chance of getting a job near home in the next 3-6 months if you stick it out. You can be close to your friends and family without having to enlist.
There's something to be said for 40-hour weeks, having 2 days off in a row, never working more than 8 hours in a day, in a community you know well. The military can't always offer that.

First, you won't get as much money joining the Navy or the Air Force. Also, you never know what and who is going to die in this war. It looks like the Navy is getting more and more active, so they will have some more casualties.
And the Air Force is getting more involved as Bush is becoming desperate to save his reputation and Presidency from being labeled as the worst President in our history.
Bush never learned to listen or think through a problem. He only trust those that agree with him all the time. This is a disaster, and servicemen and women get killed even in peace time. They play with big heavy and dangerous equipment like tanks, ships and bombers, rockets and subs, guns and bullets and many things that can kill or disable you if you screw up.
Also, any active enemy makes the service almost suicidal. Think carefully.

Air Force was the softest while I was in. Rank came slower than Army, but we did not get shot at much. I was in during the 60's. THere are some real garden spots rto which you can be sent. Elmendorf and Thule come to mind. But after a couple of years one can make a liveable wage. Not high living, but one can get by. Most of the married guys I knew held part time jobs. The Air Force training served me well in gettin gjobs in electronics after I got out.

Air force or navy is your safe branches these days. get a good education and move up to the commisioned ranks and you can start making some good money, relatively so at least. On base housing is a waiting list in most cases. you need to apply for it and then wait for a opening on the base where you are stationed. It can happen fast sometimes. I don't know what the wait is for air force or navy but when I was in the army it was a good amount of wait time. then again that was 15 years ago.

Whichever branch you choose (if any) some MOS's come with extra pay. Like my husbands is pretty dangerous, but it's not much, one of them is like 200$ extra a month.
ALSO, if you really want to make MORE money in the military, go to Iraq. Lol, we went from making only like 2400/mo to 3300, but that's because he got promoted and because BAH rates went up because of the new year.
