Scabies is an infestation of the skin by microscopic mites and when on a living host, they can live up to a month and they usually take about 4 weeks after the person has gotten them before symptoms and signs reveal themselves. There are lotions and medications to treat scabies, but the itching may still stick around for about a week or two. You might also want to get checked, because they are very contagious and are transferred by direct contact of the skin.

I got scabies when I was in the sixth grade from two of my friends. It is HIGHLY contagious so if I were you I wouldn't get too close to him. The doc told me I most likely got it because we all liked to sleep in the same bed together (as sixth grade girls do) so wherever he was staying might have been the cause of the condition. Either way, when he gets home his parents might want to disinfect anything and everything that he comes in contact with, most importantly his bedding and clothing.

Scabies is a mite that burrows into the skin layer. It does not burrow any deeper than that. It is very itchy. You get it from close contact, bed linens that someone else was in. He probably got it before he went to Calgary as it usually takes longer than a few days to manifest itself. It is treatable with a topical lotion that you have to put on your entire body. It is prescription only so he needs to go to his doctor.

Short & sweet. EXTREMELY contagious. Wash ALL bedding, towels etc. See a doctor, get enough prescription for both of you. Very common, people who like thrift stores, garage sales etc can pick them up really easy.

i would look up the disease...you're on the internet...try googling it. chances are if he got them after a day or two after arriving someplace that he didn't get them there. a doctor will have to see him and give him a scrip... no harm... just don't hug him for a while...

it's contagious, that's all i know. Pretty much you have to wash or burn or replace everything in your house if you're living with him.
