Assuming you are on a ship: If you are in port, it is similar to a regular office job, the hours just start earlier. As seniority increases, the hours get longer. Plus there is duty, where once a week (the schedule varies by ship) where you and a few others are onboard for 24 hours taking care of the ship so the others can go home. Yes, this includes the occaisional weekends and holidays. And don't forget when you go to sea, it can be for a day, week, month, etc. At least you get 30 days paid vacation a year...

I'm an Active CG officer. I work 12 hour shifts and it amounts to pretty much 40 hour weeks. Depending on what your job is you might work your regular hours plus have phone duty at night. If while on phone duty you get a call and need to go out in the field then maybe you'll work a few more hours. If you are up all night out in the field they are usually pretty good about letting you have the following day off.
Unless we are in a state of total emergency it's really not more than 40-45 hours a week.
A reserve officer, if activated works the regular hours of a normal active CG officer.
If they are simply drilling and not on active duty it's a regular 8 hour day 2 days a month and then 2 weeks during the summer.
