People with very bad eyes can see the letter E as a F, P D and many other letters so I believe that is why it is used as the biggest letter.

Because the first test is a pupil dialation response that goes with the three prongs of the letter E. It will get your eyes to focus and better make out the other letters.

commonly, the tremendous letter "E" is the 20/2 hundred line or, in fantastically a lot each usa except the U. S., the 6/60 line (20 ft being about 6 meters). because you are able to discover that letter, your imaginative and prescient is extra ideal than 20/2 hundred yet worse than the subsequent line less than that (which i imagine is 20/one hundred yet, do not take that as "gospel"). actual that truly isn't all that undesirable, there are human beings the position the Dr says "take off your glasses and study as far down on the chart as you are able to" and they reply "um...what chart?" Dr: says: "the only on the wall" and they say "uh..what wall".
