Sure - what I care about is how things went AFTER they got into school! They don't graduate people affirmatively, they just allow people who's life experiences and crappy public schools have put them at a disadvantage compared to other folks applying to colleges.

Yes, because they still have to meet the same standards for graduation and licensing as everyone else. Affirmative action just lets a person get a "foot in the door." Furthermore, there are many components that go into the making of a good doctor or lawyer, and most of them are not measurable by grades. A person who has come far enough to be accepted to med school or law school, in a society which is still racist, has already demonstrated an ability to persevere adversity. They also have a perspective that may enrich their practice.

The reason for affirmative action is to balance out the economic and social inequities that are inbedded within the application process, which was and still can be designed as a gatekeeping function to keep women and people of non-dominant cultures out of positions of power/prestige.

Depends. I would probably look at the person's transcript and see how they did. I'd also look at what other kinds of activities they did in school, like volunteering or working. I'd also take a look at their abilities and personality. I wouldn't hire someone for a physician's position if I thought they lacked bedside manner for instance. But I would do those things before hiring anyone.

If they r qualified I would.. Unfortunately here where I live, we have several doctors that are completely "unqualified" and still work here.. They have their own practice so nobody can kick them out..I am all for affirmative action but not based on skin color or sex.. I think they should have affirmative action policies for single parents and people on welfare... TRUST ME MOST of us don't get a free ride.. I am welfare and I would LOVE to go back to school and finish my degree (I need 2 years) but we don't get enough financial aid.. We don't get "scholarships" just because we are needy but affirmative action almost assures u that will get free scholarships, grants, etc.

affirmative action is a numbers game, based on opportunities presented to people at given points in their lives, it's not about intelligence....so, yeah....i'd hire them, who cares? it's the reason why we have male nurses, and ugly newscasters...

the affirmitave action plan was done with good things in mind..people who wouldn't have been given the chance have been given a chance...and graduated as your dr. or lawer in question has...but you would never know the difference. what about a dr. or lawer who was passed just because their parents were alumni or gave money to the school..wouldn't you be more afraid of them????????????????????????????????????????????????

they may have gotten in under that plan but did they excel and graduate? hell yes i would hire someone as long as they have the academic achievements to back them up. i prefer someone good from affirmative action than someone mediocre with regular admission.

NO I WOULD PREFER TO BE WITH A DOCTOR THAT NOT ONLY MADE IT ON HIS OWN MERITS BUT ALSO KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. THEN AGAIN HOW WOULD YOU EVER KNOW ? MY DOCTOR COULD BE A FLUNKY . I'M GOING TO ASK HIM.

Sure. I judge people on their ability now, not what they were like in the past.
