Occasional exposure is relatively harmless, but nurses would have regular exposure since they are there all the time.

X-rays aren't deadly to you in the very small doses necessary to take a series of views. In the numbers that techs have to take them every day, they do become dangerous after a period of time. Anyone who shoots x-rays, in human medicine, veterinary or otherwise, must wear a badge that is monitored monthly for radiation exposure. If a technician gets back a level that is too high, they are either no longer permitted to take them every again or rechecked at regular intervals until their radiation levels decrease. Typically they are never allowed to take them again, this could be a very bad thing for a radiology tech who went to school for it and spend their life in that profession.
Long term radiation can cause a whole range of health problems ranging up to and including bone marrow diseases and radiation sicknesses.

Because multiple x-rays within a short span of time are dangerous. You are getting one x-ray, but there are a lot of other people getting x-rays at the doctor's as well. The nurse would be exposed several times if she always stayed.

They aren't safe for you. But in small doses it is ok. For a nurse they leave the room because they have to do x-rays all day long. So they would get radiation poising because they are getting large doses through out a day.

Well.............

It's one of two answers;

1- Prolonged exposure from giving multiple x-rays throughout the day, week, and year add up to a greatly increased risk from exposure for the nurses and technicians giving the exam.

2- They know you are going to die from the "Alien Blast-o-Vision" ray gun they mounted on the pedestal and they don't want to any back-blast from what you are being blasted with.

Because they have to give several X-rays per day. The radiation accumulates with long term exposure. When your getting a X-ray you only are exposed for moments.

make no mistake. they are dangerous. but not for a short amount of time and rarely. that's why they put lead covers over the vital organs. But nurses have to be careful because while you recieve one dose that is minute, they probably give hundreds of them a day. it adds up and can grow to a dangerous level if exposed to to often or too much.

Because they may do many x-rays daily, every week and though your body can stand a few x-rays alone it cannot stand them over and over, theres just too much radiation.

You know I've wondered the same thing, I've had ten billion x-rays, cause I'm that clumbsy, and I've asked this really good looking man-nurse "You think I should be back there to?" lol
