on one hand th bible teaches an eye for an eye on the other it teaches to turn the other cheek

My belief is that if we took an eye for an eye then we'd all be blind so we should turn the other cheek.

Does this mean we should let people walk all over us?

I'm not religious, but interpret the above as just good moral values. If someone hurts you, there may be reasons behind it so sometimes we should turn the other cheek and give them the benefit of the doubt. However, I am not about to let people walk all over me, I am a person too and have feelings and rights, in which case I take the eye for an eye approach and will stand up for myself. I think it depends on the situation and a balance of both values will make you a stronger person

Bear in mind that the original quote was intended as a limitation on punishment, not an advocacy for it. In other words, a disproportionate response was inappropriate. But trying to reconcile this reasonable idea with some of the other punishment prescriptions is more than a bit of a stretch.

According to Christian theology, the New Covenant of Jesus Christ replaced the Old Jewish Law. So, turning the other cheek is the way to go. But it doesn't mean being flaccid. It means being defiant in the face of oppression. To turn the other cheek-- "If a man hits you in the face, offer the other cheek also." Meaning: If some dude hits you for your faith, dare him to do it again.

I do not put too much faith in the words of long-dead middle easterners, and instead prefer to think on my own. I have come to conclusions that are closer to the New Testament than the Old. Just use the rule of reasonable response to keep people from walking all over you.

In the old testament it says and eye for an eye....but in the new testament Jesus teaches us turn the other cheek because it is god's job to judge us and no other.....if someone does you wrong...it us up to god judge and to punish them not us.

Turn the other cheek, the only one who knows what justice someone deserves is GOD, so leave any wrath up to him. Jesus said we're going to be persecuted, just like he was. So love those that persecute your, just like he did.
