What an absolutely beautiful dog. He does have a bit of the stance of an AmStaff, and that's a common coloring and pattern too (although same goes for boxers). But there's definitely plenty of something else in him; as you said he is more slender and longer in the leg than any type of pit bull. In my opinion he doesn't really have the pit head either. I don't really think he has much, if any, lab in him either. How big is he? I almost want to say he has a touch of bullmastiff, but it's probably boxer. So hard to tell...could be St Bernard/Fox Terrier for all we know!
Enjoy! Give him a hug for me.

He's adorable!
I can definitely see the lab in him. He has the drop ears, broad skull, and moderately long thick tail all attributes of a lab.
However, his body does not resemble that of a lab. His forelegs are straight (which can be found in a lab) but they are also set wide apart(that is not found in a lab). This characteristic is common in pitbulls. I think he resembles a pitbull by the posture of his hind legs as they are what is known as barrel-legged.
Overall I think that the shelter might of had it right. As far as his body . . he seems a bit young maybe too young to tell if he will develop the typical 'stocky' pitbull body frame but keep in mind that he might be mixed so he can have like the pitbull posture and at the same time a mixture of the lab.
He does however have the common coat color of an American Staffordshire which strongly resemble a pit because these two breeds were both derived from the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The way you can tell the Stafford and the Pit apart is mainly by the coloring of their nose as the Stafford is not allowed to have a red nose and yours seems to have a little red.
Well I hope I was able to help you. No matter what . . he is a cutie!

Wow. He's totally adorable. I'd say for sure some pit bull, and maybe some Boxer??? Don't see much lab there, but I agree that his body structure isn't all pit bull. How old is he in those photos and how much does he weigh??
Oh! Just looked at him again, and can't get over that sweet face! What a handsome boy!

My guess would be that your dog isn't a Pitbull cross at all but maybe an American Saffordshire Terrier! These dogs are a lot like the American Pitbull Terrier except they are a little smaller and thinner! Could be!

I have a mixed pup I whelped, the pappa was a Boxer, the momma a Lab. Go to this link & SEE if yours looks like my pup. EVERYONE thinks she is a pit. lol I laugh, I definately see Boxer in her, but no one else does, they all think she is lab & pit, so did my vet till I showed him the daddy dog. http://www.ihgc.net/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=80

Cute cute cute!
I think he looks like he's got a lot of American Staffordshire Terrier in him. Does the hair down the middle of his back grow in the opposite direction? Maybe some Rhodesian Ridgeback?
Whatever he is, he's adorable!

A mix means that he is two or more different kinds of breed....
So maybe he is a pitt/lab or maybe he is a lab/pitt how about you figure it out!!!

Does it really matter? You should love him no matter what breed he is.
