Yes they do. I have been on Methadone for the past four years. After becoming addicted to Vicodin and percoset, I begged my doctor to take me off of those meds, because they weren`t helping. He put me on the Methadone so that I wouldn`t go through such severe withdrawls. (I had such a high amount of narcotics in my system, I could have died if I went "cold Turkey".) I found that after about 5 days of being on the methadone (10mg) that my back pain was totally under control, for the first time in 10 years. I asked him if this was something I could stay on, and he agreed. Not all physicians will prescribe it, but if they truly want to help you be pain free or at least tolerable, they will let you at least try it. Good luck to you..

A regular family practitioner or internal medicine doctor is not going to. You should consult your family doctor, who will likely try other therapies first. If you DO need methadone or another heavy-duty narcotic for your back pain, your regular doc will refer you to a pain clinic. A pain management doctor will review your records and evaluate your specific needs and then implement a treatment strategy that will likely include many different modalities such as TENS unit, massage, injections, etc. in addition to the medications. The pain clinic I go to does have a doc that uses methadone as one of his treatments. It's becoming more and more common to use methadone a treatment for chronic pain since it's inexpensive and lasts quite a while because of the way it is metabolized, but not every doctor uses it as a treatmetn, and it is not an option for every patient.

Methadone is a rigorously well-tested medication that is safe and efficacious for the treatment of narcotic withdrawal and dependence. For more than 30 years this synthetic narcotic has been used to treat opioid addiction. Heroin releases an excess of dopamine in the body and causes users to need an opiate continuously occupying the opioid receptor in the brain. Methadone occupies this receptor and is the stabilizing factor that permits addicts on methadone to change their behavior and to discontinue heroin use. I would think you wound have to have some pretty serious back problems for them to perscribe it, though they do for serious injury. I suggest you go to an E.R. if you are feeling bad enough to need Methadone. They's have to run various test to be SURE you needed it. You can't just ask for it.

No. If you are really in need of it I suggest you tell the truth. Doctors are very keen on pill seekers and probably won't give you much for "back pain" so I suggest you try something else. Good Luck

There is no medicine to treat back pain! Can't believe?
You will have to follow Alternative Medicine System path and Yog/acupuncture is the best out of them.
Naturopathy and physiotherapy too can help. We do it with our Meruniwarak Therapy just within 10 minutes too! Therefore i hardly need other therapies.
