I'm also a blonde, and I've been shaving my arms since I was...16, I think, was the age I started doing it (I'm 22 now). I've never had any problems with hair growing in darker.
The way I've found to get them the smoothest (without waxing, because I always have trouble doing that myself and can't afford to go to a salon), is to use a triple blade razor and shave in the direction the hair grows. For example, on my lower arms, I work in small sections, shaving from the outside edge over to the inside.

If you shave your arms so they will be soft, they won't be soft for long. After a day or two the hair will start to grow back and will be all prickly. I suggest that after you get out of the shower that you rub some good lotion or leave-in conditioner. The older you get the less hair will be on your arms.

Shaving your arms will NOT make your hairs nice and soft.
Reconsider and keep the soft hairs you do have.
You'll get more of a stubbly arm if you shave.
You're lucky your arm hairs are blonde. Mine aren't.
It's not bothered me to have them. Though for a photo shoot,
I did bleach them cuz I was unwilling to shave them for the
stiffness issue.

I've tried that, and it works for a while then in two or three days the hair grows back much thicker... you're better off trying waxing ... it may hurt for a while but just think of the soft and smooth arms you have =) and it lasts so much longer as well. Good Luck!

Waxing or using hair removing cream is a more long lasting solution but it takes time...if you want to start shaving, you'll probably have to keep doing it to keep the results and also to avoid the spikey hair

I have shaved my arms for about 2 years now. I see nothing wrong with it, but just remember, when you shave them, they will go back a little bit darker. You could try waxing. They sell it at places like wal-mart, i like waxing mine better because they stay smoother longer

You don't need to shave. You can get a beard and mustache trimmer to trim those longer hairs. There are also body buffers that help soften the hair a little.
However, if you want to shave them, you have to commit to it.
And deal with possible razor burn.

no you shouldn't because if you do then it will turn darker, and that's when people start noticing it. nobody really cares if you have a hairy arm, so dont shave it. trust me, it's better than having dark, bushy hair.

do not shave your arms. The resulting regrowth will be courser and darker. Instead use a dipilatory like "nair" or "veet". Works well and last longer.
