I'm normally pretty calm around the day but when I get frustrated with something I can't do I explode. I get very immature and hit things and the like.

Are there any useful techniques that you know of that can help me control it when I feel it boiling in me. I don't want to stop working at something that's difficult because that would be counter-productive. I want to be able to work at something until I either come to the conclusion I can't do it or get good enough to accomplish it.

So I don't need to know how to stop anger from beginning, but once it's right there in my throat, instead.

Thanks in advance.

Believe it or not, I go through the same thing time and time again. But the best way that I get thru it is first off to calm down: i take a deeeep breath, then i pray "Lord, Jesus please help me get thru this and please show me the right way and help me to be patient". And before I know it I have completed what I was trying to do. Then Say, "Thank You Jesus". And thats how my difficult tasks are complete... no matter what it is God will help you through it, all you have to do is "believe".

Hi, my husband looses his temper, and it is tied to his chemical imbalance. Yes, it is important to work on managing anger, but that may not be enough when neurotransmitters are not working properly. You should have the doctor prescribe an anti-depressant. Ask him to start you on Lexapro or Celexa, on a low dose. If that makes you tired, add Wellbutrin at a low dose.
It takes several weeks, and you may need to try a couple of combinations, but you can find a solution. Be careful on any higher doses of anything. A psycharist had my husband on a high dose of Effexor, and it actually made him a lot worse. Ask the doctor to start you on low doses.

Imagine circus, or carousel music playing when you get mad.

Here's a good musical piece to accompany your anger:

Close your eyes and picture your last explosion while listening to this. Sometimes the struggles can make life more fun.

Every time you explode or feel like your ready to explode think of funny music.

Another thing to do is close your eyes and picture something that might make you explode. At first you can try seeing the picture close up, and in color and surround sound.

Then zoom out from the picture.

Make it a black and white picture.

Take away the sound.

These things can make you change the way you feel about the hard times.

My best advice is to keep tihngs in perspective. DOES IT REALLY MATTER? Ask yourself if you can leave the situation to think about it instead of react. Usually once we have time to think about things we are more logical and rational.
other good things:
Breath.
Relax.
STOP. THINK. then ACT. - some people have found a red-yellow-green bracelet works as a reminder.
Look for an anger managment group in your area. there is a lot to learn about displaying normal amounts of anger.
Good luck.

well I have bad tempers-- I used to beat my ex boyfriend up and he told me to go to anger management classes! so i did then it just made me angrier because the therapist was late! so I stopped going!! 5 years later which is now I just got prescribed celexa for all my mood swings and anger-- so I hope it helps-- its only been 2 days and so far no difference.. to try and stop it - maybe stop being around the things that make you angry or just sware in your head! in stead of throwing things or hitting them-- walk away from the situation if you can.. good luck im still trying to control my own anger!

Well there's the old count to 10 before reacting....10 seconds and hopefully you should be able to regain some control.

Walk it off...run...exercise...work it off. It's probably stress that has you would up and exercise is the BEST destresser. You will find you won't blow as often.

I know how you feel. I used to get that way. I found out that I have GAD (general anxiety disorder) and I take an antidepressant called Lexapro. It's similar to prozac. Try talking to a doctor about it.

Take a few deep breaths, bro. Whenever you feel yourself getting mad, just run cross-country style, bro. I don't care if your at work, in the middle of punching your boss, just run out the door if feel yourself getting the slightest bit angry. good luck, homeboy.
