Church is the assembly of the People that God has called together from the ends of the earth.

In Christian usage, the word "Church" has three inseparable meanings:
+ The People that God gathers in the whole world
+ The local church (diocese)
+ The liturgical (above all Eucharistic) assembly

The Church draws her life from the Word and the Body of Christ, and so herself becomes Christ's Body.

In the Nicene Creed (from 325 A.D.), the Church is professed to be one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.

With love in Christ.

The Bible defines a church as a gathering of believers, not a building. "Wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." The word church comes from a Greek word eklesia which means "the called out ones"- As in the Old Testament the followers of God's law were told to "come out" from among the pagan worshipers of idols, and were "called".Those who accepted the call became "sons of God". Therefore a person could have church in a living room, a park, any place where two or more believers gathered to worship.

I will misspell this word, but the word church comes from the Greek word Ecclesea, meaning called out. The ecclesea is literally the called out body of Christ. Thus the church is the body of Christ who have been called out so therefore church is not a building. In the bible anytime church is used it is talking about the Christian people. Only one body, not many. Ephesians chapter 4:4,5,6 declares.

The Bible definition says the church is the fullness of the ministry and body of Christ in the earth today.

The all-too-often reality is a group of religious people who adhere to good works, self-righteousness, (instead of God-righteousness), and have watered down or distorted the gospel to almost unrecognizable proportions.

Where ever two or more of us are together, God is with them. A church is a place to worship God with others who believe like you do. Its also a place for social contact with others. With major denominations, its a place that supports missions and missionaries. Its a place to be baptized and to learn about being a Christian

That would be the place where all the hypocrits and bigots meet weekly to lie to each other about brotherhood, peace, love and all that crap just before they go to vote for segregated schools and march in rallies to support the extermination of anyone who doesn't agree with them. There is usually some guy inside wearing a robe of some kind begging all the people in attendance for money they can't afford to pay and which would be much better spent elsewhere on worthwhile humanitarian projects.
If you pass by one, cross the street.

A church is a place of worship (most commonly a building, but they can be in houses, on land, etc), most commonly thought of to the Christian religion.
