Recorder is one of the easiest musical instruments to play followed by the piano.

The piano or a string instrument. Recorder may be is fine, but it would depend on your child's fingers.

You are limited because of the size of your child's body. Their arms and fingers must be able to hold the instrument and reach the keys while being in the proper position.

This is not a problem for piano and string instruments come in different sizes.

I have taught a sixth grader who began trumpet in second grade and she was awesome, but she was also long limbed.

I don't know the answer to this question, but I started to play the piano when I was 5. Choose an instrument that YOU wouldn't mind hearing played loudly and repetatively (:

Piano. My daughter is six and has been taking piano lessons for over a year. Just make sure it goes fairly slowly--you don't want to put too much on a six-year-old. And make sure it's a good teacher--someone who's really patient and good with young children. :)

I'd say piano, as long as you start slow and have the child practice everyday.

Piano, from the piano they can go on to other instruments. After I had piano lessons I taught myself guitar, accordian, clarinet and the flute.

Get them a child's guitar but tune it in an alternate tuning so when they strum, it will sound pretty. This may keep them interested enough so they actually learn how to play.

A good nice sound alternate tuning is:

Tune the thick E string to D
keep the fifth on as it is A
keep the fourth one as it is D
Keep the third string as G
Tune the second one from B to A
Tune the first down from E to D
