Absolutely yes, and at the same time, no.

"God" is the Euro-Middle Eastern concept of a creator, while the "Great Spirit" is an American Indian concept. So yes, they could and probably are, referring to the same thing.

But at the same time, both terms almost certainly explain things differently, and focus on different things. To an Anglican, the Great Spirit wouldn't match his God at all, and the same for a Cherokee trying to find similarities between his Great Spirit and the Pope's God.

But on the other hand, the same entity probably answers to both names.

I think it may be a little distorted from their perceptions of the natural world, but we all have built in need to believe in God. Also I'm sure the accounts of the flood and creation were also passed down through word of mouth which became more and more nature and animals related as time went on.

Definitely. I think anyone who appeals to any kind of higher power of good worships the same God.

I have always felt that God manifests himself in ways that his children will be best to understand.

God is the creator. You fear His wrath, and adore his blessings. Plain and simple. So, regardless of how you believe in Him, you do...

Know what I mean?
