He could be a switch hitter (bisexual). I would take it real slow with this man. If a man is 53 and says he's never been married, I am cynical and think that he is a confirmed bachelor and a player, gay, separated but not divorced, married and lying about it, or a commitmentphobe. If he makes a point of saying he's not gay, he probably is and just hasn't come out of the closet.

No deal. I have an uncle who is not gay and has never been married and is in his 70's. He loved once, split with her to go to a war, so she would not wait and be so hurt if he died, and loved no other, ever. These days, sometimes you would feel the need to point out that you are not gay just to end people wasting time wondering based on your single status.
