If they are not decomposing in a secluded area, than they more than likely have become easy prey for other animals (easy targets for even the fatest cats). Ask any cat owner how many times Fluffy has brought back a gift from it's hunting expedition (not to mention the snack she had before coming home)

Lots of birds do fall from the sky, but usually over the ocean while migrating due to exhaustion or dehydration. Most birds that end up dead on the ground are quickly eaten by mammals, other birds, insects, or rodents.

They die and lie on the ground where insects and bacteria break them down. Like all living things they get recycled in the soil . Have a nice day.
