Thai people will not buy hand carved items like the tourists do but as mentioned above, they always buy food.. plenty of competition too.. I am a retired biz man and have resisted the temptation several times as this is not a great biz environment for farang.. and I think the statiistic that I have seen is that 90% of farang business go bust, but that is probably mostly bars.. My advice is to make your $$ somehwere else and enjoy spending it here

It's very vary. In my opinion, food is selling well. Thai people love to eat as you can see many restaurants and bakery/ice-cream shop in Thailand and full with people. Especially, they are mushrooming in Sukhumvit area. Some's doing good business, some doesn't.

It's very difficult to answer the best thing to sell in Thailand. If I know one, I would open the shop and selling it right now. It's also depend on the Location, marketing strategies, quality and price of the product.

PS: I think the handcraft things are sell well to tourists not among Thai people.

I agree with spanky - the moment you open up to sell something - I can guarantee by two weeks there will be another shop open up and will be selling exactly the same thing but cheaper than yours. And you will go bust.

Sad but true.
