Pride is what blinds them

Generalizing works both ways...... Education is not the same thing as indoctrination. I never said any one was uneducated and illiterate. I would say theres more well educated Christians then there are Atheists based on numbers. However, I dont know how Christian some of them really are.

I am not an athiest I am agnostic... I dont think all christians are uneducated and illiterate, but I do think a vast majority of people today religious or not are uneducated and grossly ignorant about many things in general. I also think that religion encourages narrow-mindedness and ignorance on a large scale especially where science is concerned.

"When a blind man and one who sees are both together in darkness, they are no different from one another. When the light comes, then he who sees will see the light, and he who is blind will remain in darkness."
That quote comes straight out of the Gospel of Phillip recovered at Nag Hammadi... I think it is a good metaphor for the blindness encouraged by organized religion. It is what Jesus said when his disciples asked him why he loved Mary Magdalene more than he loved them. They could not open their minds and see, therefore they were blind... in the time following religion labelled Magdalene as a prostitute because they were blind to the truth... Today it seems that people love ignorance more than knowledge.....

All Christians?

No. Show me an atheist who said that. I think that you're just making it up.

The fact is that on the average atheists are smarter than believers, but there is a lot of variation, particularly among believers.

The fact is also that believers loudly and fervently talk about things about which they are completely ignorant, most notably the existence of god, evolution, and morality. As long as believers are so enthusiastically and arrogantly ignorant, it's perfectly reasonable for atheists to consider themselves smarter, particularly when discussing those topics.

No.

You can be the most intelligent, educated person in the world and still be fooled.

It's when a person willfully ignores facts because those facts threaten their personal, subjective belief system... THAT is when they are perceived as being stupid, uneducated, etc.

There may not be any factual evidence to prove there is no god, but there is plenty of factual evidence to prove false many aspects of religion. There is also a great deal of factual evidence which strongly supports theories that contradict stories in the bible, and other religions texts. When this evidence is dismissed wholesale by Christians, especially highly educated ones, this demonstrates a lack of critical thinking skills, and these people do not deserve to be applauded for their intelligence.

It is easy to take offense to that, but the truth of the matter is, per capita, the intelligence rate is higher for atheists. Think about this, Jesus could have chosen well educated priests to be his disciples, but he chose uneducated fisherman instead. In our society we value intelligence more than faith and that makes some people see religious people as being dumb or wrong. Even if someone does not have a huge IQ, it does not make them always wrong or it does not ensure that non believers are always right. However, there are MANY extremely intelligent people who defend the faith from a scientific standpoint and a philosophical one as well. If no one intelligent believed it, I might question whether the gospel was true or not, but fortunately that is not the case.

I don't think that Christians are uneducated, i went to a baptist school from the age of 7, but there arguments on here shows they are ignorant (if only to an extent) like one persons question that i answered earlier:

he said "Anyone hear of these famous atheists?"
Hitler,Stalin,Charles Manson,Columbine kids,Wayne Gacy,
All of these are murderers and all are atheists. See the connection?

now tell me this isn't an ignorant person :)

If you give me one example of where I bragged how smart I am, then I will answer your generalizing statement.

For now: Of course I don't think ever Christian is uneducated.

However, I do believe that a large part of this planet could use a little more education. Specially on Love.

I think some of them (SOME of them) are uneducated in certain areas of science, simply because science and religion have a hard time co-existing, and most people will prefer to put their hands over their ears when science tries to explain something that goes against the Bible. The logic that some of them use is also really bad sometimes. But do I think they're stupid in general? Of course not.

Of course not. There is significant evidence to suggest that there is a negative correlation between intelligence and religious belief, but I've never heard of any studies exploring such a link between Christianity and education or literacy.

Not all but when you follow blindly (which is what faith is) then you appear ignorant and intolerant. In my sociology text book "new born Christians" are a form of fundamentalism just like the same sects of Muslims who are radicals and choose to be terrorists. They are both defined as believing they have a relationship with God.
