Cats usually do strange things like this when they are young. Is this cat still a kitten? This is usually a behavioral issue and they generally resolve themselves. However, you need to make sure that he is not sucking his tail to the point that it gets raw. He could potentially get a secondary bacterial infection if it gets to this point. We see this most frequently in kittens that were weaned to early. Good Luck.

I had a cat that did that. She had to be in the right mood and then she would rub against my legs letting me know she wanted me to pick her up. I'd cradle her in my arms like a baby and she would reach between her legs, draw her tail up and suck on the end. It was a hoot. She was the alpha cat and the funny thing is if one of the other cats came into the room while she was doing it, she would stop and run out of the room. I think she didn't want any of them knowing she had this habit in case they viewed her as being weak or vulnerable.
At the time I did speak to my vet about it because I had never heard of anything like it. He assured me there was nothing wrong other than perhaps she had been weaned too early from her mother.
We got into a routine eventually so in the late evening when I was watching t.v. she would have her little session and then go to sleep for the night. I loved it. I thought it was the most wonderful show of contentment and trust I have ever witnessed.
Enjoy it.

Yeah i had a cat that did this as well. It is because she was taken from the mother too early. My cat did it to the point that it change the colour of the tip of the tail (it was black then eventually turned a browny colour) The vet said that was the reason..... as long as she's not doing it excessively to the point of harming herself, then she'll most likely grow out of it, unless it becomes a habit..... I don't have her anymore but she had the coolest personality, so cheeky, if I picked her up and held her like a baby she would go to sleep...! every time..!! soo cute....... I miss her xoxo

Well, If you cat sucks at the end of his tail. Then that might mean that he was weaned too early from his mother and might want to suck thinking that he will get milk.
My cat likes to lay on my shoulder and try to suck my neck due to being weanned too early from her mother. I wouldn't worry about it. Cat do strange things sometimes.

Because it does feel good.
My grand-cat like to suck on a patch-work blanket I made for my daughter. When they visit she (the cat) goes into my fabric box and steals scraps of the same blanket and sucks on it.
Our pets have personalities too and that's what make them so sweet and a joy to interact with.

Because it feels good to him. Many kittens start this as a comfort like human children suck their thumb. So long as he doesn't make it sore, its fine.

umm my opinion is you might want to check the end of his tail out he may have a boo boo ... but yea he might have something like that and sucking or licking on it probably relieves the pain.

It may have been seperated from its mother at a young age. If it gets furballs on a regular basis, give it some Petromalt . You can get it at any pet supply store.
