Human beings are created to know God. He instilled in us a thirst that will not be satisfied until we reach out to Him for companionship and love. Paul wrote in Philippians 3:8 (NAS), "More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ."
We were created to have an intimate, loving relationship with the Lord? and to bring Him glory. Paying respect with our gifts and good works is a natural extension of that design. But our primary responsibility is to spend time with Him.

To love the Lord your God with all of your heart sould and mind

To love others as you love yourself

To spread the Good News

To serve Christ by serving others, he, afterall gave the best service by giving his life, what makes us think we can just go on through life without serving others, when even while he was dying on the cross because of the sins we commit, he still loved us more than anything

From a species stand point...to get laid and have lots of babies to perpetuate our species.

Its interesting to think that believer in faith (like the commenter above) is to believe that our existence here on earth is a waste of time and its only when our life ends when Paradise begins...I think it is a flawed assumption and my best advice for the meaning of life, from a social perspective, is to live life to its fullest in how you see fit....what makes you happy...so when you die you can know that you discovered the meaning before it ended.

It depends upon every person's outlook in his life.
For me, the true meaning of life is to serve God.
It is why we are here, to serve Him, and not the other way around. :)
