I'm in college and one of my close friends has anorexia. She had a history of anorexia in high school and admits to it being a problem. She hasn't eaten anything in over five days. Her parents are part of the problem so I can't ask them for help and the campus heath center doesn't deal well with eating disorders. (they would just put her on medical leave and I think going home would just make it worse) telling her she's going to die if she doesn't eat won't work, because I think she is suicidal. what do i do?

Is there a free clinic? Go to the campus health centre and see if there's any pamphlets on the subject. A lot of times, they have telephone numbers for clinics, or support groups. Call your doctor. Ask him for some advice.
Just be there for her. Make sure a least that she has something to drink. Eating disorders are hard to beat because they have nothing to do with food and everything to do with lake of self- esteem and wanting to take control. Hang in there.

First I Would Ask Your Family Doc, Then I would pray for her,Also Let her know how worried you are about her and how much you love her and ask that she go get help.They have treatment centers for things like this.Even if she don't have money or inc. they wont turn her away in turn the state will pick up the bill..I will pray for as well.That's to bad her parents are not helpful however she has you and that is the key thing to have Someone who cares and it sounds like you do.Maybe get a Few good friends that she trust to talk with her,Good Luck!

She definitely need professional help. I am sure you have tried to help her. But most likely she is beyond what you are able to help with. If she does not get help she may die. You really need to go to the campus health center. Or take her to the closest emergency room. She may need IV fluids she is probably dehydrated. They can also help with the mental and social issues and maybe get her on the right track.

Having been anorexic as a teenager (I'm 44), I can tell you that as long as she thinks she is fat you will not be able to help her. Besides, if you tell her she is sick she will not believe you.
I remember, reading about Karen Carpenter and this is what turned my life around. I did not know I was killing myself the same way.
Perhaps you can try to get someone who has been through this to talk to her, only someone who has been through it will really reach her.

Yell her to go to the doctor immediatly! Anorexia is a very deadly eating disorder that may end up killing your frined. if you dont do something now, when she dies the guilt will eat you up. First of all tell her to go to the doctor, and if she refuses tell her all the facts about anerexia and what could happen to her if she dosen't get help. You have to try the campus doctors. She needs psych. help immediately. Talk to them personally and explain the situation.
