Yes, if they were allowed to fight in UNLIMITED wars like WW2. Limited wars like Iraq & Vietnam are such a problem because the US military has one arm tied behind it's back because if can't use all it's military power to stop the enemy. The Viet Cong knew this all to well and the Iraqis insurgents learned it from them plus the US military has never had very good counter insurgency training.

As a former Gut -jarhead that served Regan's "hit Team" as we called ourselves, not the "A-Team". (I' m not that old) We went up against some of the best non-professionals that money or belief could produce. This is how it goes... if the commander does not give the enemy respect as a threat the pros get there rears handed to them for being stupid, if you treat the threat as it is "A Threat" No, no non-professional raised army could every bet and professional.
Now in the cases you are referencing, Korean war is still not over, we are still in a ceasefire. Vietnam was a Police action and not classed as a war with the U.S. A. government. And with Iraq, JUNIOR, thought once we rolled into down town, everyone would be good to go. Surprise... they did not all get along, and Dumbsfell knew that from his days with Regan and Bush Sr. So none of what happen was a surprise...
Once the gloves are removed a pro will sink a "want-to-be" force in no time. The key here is that the Pros are trained for war.

Has it occured to anyone that the only wars we have had difficulty with have been since instant news, or really fast news reporting. How long do you think we would have faught in Europe and the Pacific if every night the news reported 2500 soldiers and 1000 Marines were killed in fighting today? Not long, Americans do not have the stomach for doing what it takes. That is why the North Koreans, the Vietcong and now the Iraqi insurgents are doing well. They are winning the hearts and minds of the American people.
Thank God we didn't have instant news in the 1940's.

The problem with the ugly little wars is that the goals tend to be ill-defined and so are the end-points. Without a formal surrender from a formal government, who's to say you've won? If it's when most of your political goals have been met, then we've done quite well, if bloodily, in the Philippines, the Boxer Rebellion, and that collection of conflicts derisively lumped together as the Banana Wars.

The US military has a consistent history of wining the VAST majority of battles that they engage in.
The US military also has a consistent history of being manipulated by politicians and uninformed public opinion.
The US military is second to none, especially mud hut gorillas.
War should be carefully considered by our foes. The day is coming when we will decide to save 400 billion dollars on trying to be nice, and limit the budget to a few hundred million based on cost effectiveness. The sooner that day comes, the happier I'll be.
I'm sick and tired of these sh!tbirds screwing with my country and our way of life.
That includes you allah.

Sure if the commie democrats would let the man do his job. They do not want to help, they just want to be sure they get the credit when the war is won. What do you mean , without uniforms, Vietnam and Iraq are uniformed, their own kind.

it's called a Gorilla army, because of the tatics they use. Yes we can win if the TV crews and politicians would back off for three months and let us do what we are trained to do. We can't use the rules of engagement everyone wants us to use to satisfy this false sense of the nobility of war. It is people killing one another because we think we are right and they think the same thing. Truth is the first casuality of war. What needs to happen is everyone needs to back off, let us do what we are trained to do. Turn the TV's back on in three months you'll see a whole new picture. Until then, no...we are killers with wet noodels.

I guess Armies like the Vietnamese know their way around and they fight naturally and blend themselves in which is the best way of fighting.
