I think they all would make an excellent guard/family dog. All three are beautiful dogs. Of course you know the German Shepherd is very smart since the police use them a lot.The Doberman is just as smart, but the police don't use them as often since they are more sensitive to the cold weather. The German Shepherd would take more grooming than the Doberman or the Rottweiler. The later two takes hardly any grooming at all. I had a white German Shepherd many, many years ago and he was very smart and lovable. I never owned a Rottie, but have had Dobermans for the past 25+ years and find them to be very intelligent , fearless and assertive. They have tremendous strength and stamina. They are also a very devoted, loyal and affectionate dog But remember, they are not good for a novice owner since they are very head strong and try to be the boss!!! Trained properly they are excellent, just like any well trained dog. If you are one that has heard or believes the myth, I have never had one to turn on me or a family member and attack!! Good luck on either of the three.

I don't really know Doberman or Rottweilers very well, but my husband insists that German Sheperd are the best guard dogs. He had an ex police dog as a guard dog when he was young and he was a good family dog and didn't hurt the family at all but was a really good guard dog where noone would have been game to break in!
On the other hand, my Aunty has german sheperds as pets and they are shocking! Her fish pond was raided and drained while the dog was sleeping on the job. I think in her situation though, she really spoilt the dog and wrecked them. I think with the right treatment they would be fine.
My next door neighbour has a rottweiler and it looks savage but I don't think it is. It barks alot when people come near the fence but it basically licks you to death when you open the gate.
Sorry, I don't know anything about dobermans.

I think that all of them would make great guard dogs. I dont know a lot about the doberman, but the rottweiler if you had one of these for a pet then I would stay in my car till you came out. The german shepherd is one of the best dogs around for guard, they are loyal, and very loving, and they are good with kids. I would go with the shepherd.

German Sheperd, for one, all herding dogs are very smart and easily trained. They are not overlly agressive, naturally, so they would get along with young children. They make excellent guard dogs and can be very intimidating.
Doberman would be #2 pick because they would make good guard/family dog, they can be friendly but not as smart. Takes more time to train, i have found. Easier to groom than a sheperd though.
Rottweilers, are my least favorite of the three for these reasons: They can be highly aggressive, and require lots of attention in training. Sometimes can be unpredictable when being protective. Great guard dog though.

Before i was born my parents had a doberman that was stabbed guarding our house, but he survived and he was great with me, he never acted aggressively to me, what ever I did to him, which included painting him green with house paint accidentally :D but he died when i was 8 :'(, I now have a rottie who is a great guard dog and a great family dog, as for the German Shepperd i wouldn't no, i don't think i have ever meet one.

Rottweilers are the best there loyal good tempered and loving if bought up that way, just remember a rottie is how its bought up.i have a rottie bought her up with my little girl, when we r out my dog wont let my little girl out of her sight for a split second,at night when I'm walking her off the lead she wont leave my side and if anyone comes near me that she don't know she warns them off by showing her teeth

i would say all of them since i had them when i was small they died but anyway i would mostly pick a German Shepard or a Rottweiler because the German Shepard's get smart fast and they love to be active the Rottweiler is good because they are heavy and big they have teeth that could make a burglar's arm bleed and are also intelligent. so they would never harm you.

Go with either the Shepard or Rott.I've had both and they're great family/guard dogs.Don't believe what everyone says about Rotts.,the owner decides the dogs temperament by how they raise/train them. All dogs will bite/attack if raised wrong.By that I mean beating/abusing them, which is WRONG.I will not recommend the dobie for reasons I will not state here.

I would have to say the German Sheppard. We had one that had been a former police dog and he was the best . Not only did he patrol the house at night but he also loved to be around children. They tend to become very protective of their humans but like to think they're still puppies at heart. You need to find a reputable breeder that can answer questions for you as far as health. Ours lived to a ripe old age of 18 yrs. before he died. Good luck!
